Commitment
As of today, I am quitting my half-assed approach to eating low carb. I'm going to play by the rules this time. I will suffer the trials of the two week "induction phase" (20 carbs or less a day, three good sized servings of vegetables, no artificial sweeteners or caffeine, lots of water, blah blah), and then down to the long hard business of ongoing weight loss. I'm also going to get back into my exercise habit.
I'm nervous and a little worried--what if it doesn't work (again)? What if my thyroid is still messed up? What if I'm not on the right medication? I don't want to set myself up for disappointment (again). But anything is better than these late-night cravings for Dolly Madison Powdered Sugar Gem Donuts and living in my overalls.
A co-worker and I are doing this together, which will help. I'm also asking for support from friends. If you see me starting to reach for that German Chocolate Cake brownie, stop me! Help keep me honest. After nearly a year of fruitless effort, I fear my willpower and confidence are at an all-time low.
However, please don't succumb to a need to tell my I'm going to destroy my kidneys, or send my cholesterol and blood pressure through the roof. I've read the books and I've seen enough to know that this way of eating really works for me. Plus, I have the magic words "recommended by my doctor."

You also have those of us on health kicks to lean on if you start feeling bummed out about it. Or, if you want to talk at length about how it is going! And, how nice it will be to begin fitting into smaller clothes, such a fine reward!

Lets coordinate that!
answering the encouragement call
Mostly I hope for you that the medications will help with the most pressing health matter first, and I do understand the trials and disappointments of having to try again when the one I'm on doesn't work out well, so I'm here to listen if that happens.
If it's any help, an former acquaintance's partner was pre-diabetic and did the strict diet for a year. She completely rid herself of the diabetic condition AND lost 35 lbs in the bargain over that year. So, I conclude that it IS good for some health issues.
Hugs and kisses lovely one. It's going to be okay.

Go team go!
Alcohol doesn't count as carbs, right? Didn't think so.
Hugs,
Chris
