It helps him think

[livejournal.com profile] kazoogrrl pointed me to the blog of a dance-friend and yoga instructor who has had sacroiliac joint problems and my goodness did her words resonate with me. Yes, I think I am strength-deficient in my core. That makes total sense. I did the yang series she suggests yesterday morning and immediately felt better. Well! I'll be incorporating that as well as the yin series in my regular routine. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] kazoogrrl!

Finally, finally, one of the daily tee shirt sites comes up with a Sherlock tee shirt that I love (the one with the violin, obviously). Just when my Sherlock feelings are waning/in crisis. OF COURSE.

A study shows that Reading a book can change your neurochemistry. "Neuroscientist Professor Gregory Berns, of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, found that, as we read, we believe we are experiencing what is happening to the characters." What does it say about me that my favorite literary genre is horror?

If you're interested in bodies on a level that goes beyond aesthetic appreciation, check out this article on how fascia, muscles, our nervous systems, etc., are (of course!) inseparable.

Today's Tumblr collection is Tuesday, January 21: Stars.

Why is your interest in Sherlock waning?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-01-21 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it's not my interest in the show, it's my interest in the fandom. I'm being stupid and letting all the fandom wank and whining affect me.

Huh. Okay. I think I've missed that since I'm not seeing much more than a vague reference to it on my tumblr feeds. Given I'm not deep into the fandom I may be missing loads of stuff. Is it worse than normal bitching?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-01-21 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. On one side, the writers didn't deliver what the fandom wanted/expected, and people feel betrayed. On the other side, the writers did some weird shit that didn't seem true to the show or the characters and people feel betrayed.

I can see both sides, although I'm leaning more toward the Get Over Yourselves, Fandom camp. I thought the season was okay, and the last episode itself was quite good, but I'm sympathetic to some of the complaints.

When all three episodes have aired in the US, I'll post a giant collection of meta/analysis I've been collecting since the first episode aired in the UK on January 1.

It certainly had a different feel and focus than previous seasons. I don't know enough of the canon for Sherlock Holmes in general to have much of an opinion on how it twisted that (other than knowing it did).

I bloody well fucking LOVED Mary.

I'm looking forward to your links collection.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-01-21 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Mary was amazing, I completely agree.

The fandom's not complaining about deviating from canon so much as they're complaining about ... well, honestly? I don't understand what they're complaining about. I'm avoiding reading too much of the hate. I know one person who is having problems with the season because a lot of it touched on issues that were a little too personal and she's feeling tender about that, but not betrayed. That sort of thing I sympathize with. But a lot of the other complaints I'm just sort of avoiding because they bring me down.

I'm especially worried that enough of the fandom will bail that I won't get the experience I was hoping for at 221B Con and that'll be a lot of money and time spent on something that isn't what I signed on for.

I hope that doesn't happen and you get the experience you were looking for ... and document it here. ;)

Maybe time for a break from the fandom? Me, I've stayed away and LOVED (and still LOVE) Season 3.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-01-23 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, that doesn't help with my feelings about fandom/the con. =(

Wow, what a great set of links. Thank you! Lots of fun, lots to think about. I swooned for your star tumblr. OMG so beautiful.

I loved Mary in this Sherlock episode, too. The canon gives almost nothing to work with, so they had to concoct her from scratch. I liked how she was neither an irrelevant diversion nor a jealous Sherlock-antagonist. She grasped the situation and worked with it intelligently and with love--kinda like a real person.

I firmly believe that ACD created Mary solely to keep The Powers That Be from sniffing around him (and his characters) too closely after Oscar Wilde's unfortunate experiences.

Frankly, I was surprised at how well they pulled off a complex Mary in the show. Moffatt has such a shit record when it comes to attitudes toward women (in his scripts as well as real life). I lay responsibility for the Mary we got firmly at the feet of Gatiss and Thompson.

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2014-01-22 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. I totally agree about the genesis of the original Mary. There's no reason for Watson to marry, and it never seems in character.

So glad it helped! You'll see her post on my LJ as [livejournal.com profile] marinatempest. If the posts you read didn't mention it, she's also big into fascia.

Oh, cool! Thanks!

I have 2 favorite genres: sci fi & horror. So I guess whatever it says about you, it also says about me. :)

Thanks for this - I've had SI problems for years, and they've been flaring again lately. Will try some of this to see if it helps!

Mine already feels so much better after only doing it for three days. I hope you find similar relief!

MAN, your Tumblr is a WIN.

I think I reblogged almost all of it ;-)

I mean, SERIOUSLY
