It helps him think
Finally, finally, one of the daily tee shirt sites comes up with a Sherlock tee shirt that I love (the one with the violin, obviously). Just when my Sherlock feelings are waning/in crisis. OF COURSE.
A study shows that Reading a book can change your neurochemistry. "Neuroscientist Professor Gregory Berns, of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, found that, as we read, we believe we are experiencing what is happening to the characters." What does it say about me that my favorite literary genre is horror?
If you're interested in bodies on a level that goes beyond aesthetic appreciation, check out this article on how fascia, muscles, our nervous systems, etc., are (of course!) inseparable.

I can see both sides, although I'm leaning more toward the Get Over Yourselves, Fandom camp. I thought the season was okay, and the last episode itself was quite good, but I'm sympathetic to some of the complaints.
When all three episodes have aired in the US, I'll post a giant collection of meta/analysis I've been collecting since the first episode aired in the UK on January 1.

The fandom's not complaining about deviating from canon so much as they're complaining about ... well, honestly? I don't understand what they're complaining about. I'm avoiding reading too much of the hate. I know one person who is having problems with the season because a lot of it touched on issues that were a little too personal and she's feeling tender about that, but not betrayed. That sort of thing I sympathize with. But a lot of the other complaints I'm just sort of avoiding because they bring me down.
I'm especially worried that enough of the fandom will bail that I won't get the experience I was hoping for at 221B Con and that'll be a lot of money and time spent on something that isn't what I signed on for.

I loved Mary in this Sherlock episode, too. The canon gives almost nothing to work with, so they had to concoct her from scratch. I liked how she was neither an irrelevant diversion nor a jealous Sherlock-antagonist. She grasped the situation and worked with it intelligently and with love--kinda like a real person.

Frankly, I was surprised at how well they pulled off a complex Mary in the show. Moffatt has such a shit record when it comes to attitudes toward women (in his scripts as well as real life). I lay responsibility for the Mary we got firmly at the feet of Gatiss and Thompson.
