Only Lovers Left Alive

mckitterick and I finally got to KC to see Only Lovers Left Alive this weekend. I thought it was gorgeous. I enjoyed every beautiful moment of it, but I understand why it had a hard time finding distribution and won't see wide release. It's very much a mood piece. Man, I'd watch it again tomorrow, though. And not only because Tom Hiddleston.

The film deserves to have more said about it, but I don't know what to say, really. And I don't want to spoil it for people waiting for it to come out on DVD.

Say it anyway! I understand, though, because it's the closest I've come to using "I can't even" when discussing something. It managed to tap into a very essential part of my brain.

Also, I love that all the little trivia bits are true, I've been looking them up, even though the actors deliver them in a way that sounds like a friend bullshitting you.

I will definitely talk more about this with you tomorrow when my brain isn't fuzzy from menstrual brain fog/exhaustion and a zillion work-related ducks nibbling at my toes. I'd especially like to hear your thoughts on whether they were actually our progenitors.

I also find myself at a loss for words about the film. It's just, I love it. It both reminds me of so many cultural things I've loved - gothy stuff, music, literature, etc - and just lets me slowly bathe in gorgeous ideas and people.

I enjoyed it a lot, although I can easily understand why it won't be a box office smash ever. Mood-wise, it reminds me of The Hunger.
