This isn't even part of my actual job

I have to deal with numbers and financials today and it's draining me. You guys, I am so so so VERY BAD with numbers. I have slight dyscalculia (yes, it's a real thing) and trying to reconcile the amounts on these spreadsheets is exhausting and anxiety-inducing.

Ugh.

This sucks.

I am with you. Inventory was dumped on me this year with 5 minutes of what can laughably called "training", which has now been replaced with "yelling at for not doing the job correctly or faster" even though I have no idea how the convoluted system works or the time to add it to my work load. Plus I can't dig into it and have to hop from task to task which makes me feel like I've been kicked in the head.

*tries to think of something nice*

Um, no one will die while you try to figure it out?

My favorite e-card, ever:

Which reminds me of one of my favorite albums, especially the last track:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_Ballads

ETA: "The death count on the entire album comes to 65, or a mean average (rounding) of 6.5 deaths per song."

Man, I wish I liked Nick Cave more. I like his aesthetic, and his voice is amazing, but his music just does not move me. The only one I can listen to without being bored is Red Right Hand. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick likes him and we have four or five of his albums, so I've tried to learn to like him. But...no. Perhaps alas.

[identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been able to get there with him, either. I gave up, too.

[identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
YES.

[identity profile] davesmusictank.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo i love Tom Waits and his music

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I started losing him around Boatman's Call

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I am sorry. I don't have dyscalculia, but I am pretty sure I do have math anxiety, so I know this has gotta suck donkey balls for you.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I spent twenty minutes thinking someone had overpaid because in the spreadsheet the number 600 was in the cell above the number 1,160 and I read it as $1,600. It took someone else coming TO MY OFFICE and LOOKING AT MY SCREEN and POINTING THIS OUT TO ME before I realized what I'd done.

Oh god, honey :( Numbers are evil. Spreadsheets are evil. I'll be happy if I never have another job where I have to deal with budgets. Stress, omg so much stress!

(((huggles you))) Hopefully it'll be over soon!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I fucking love spreadsheets when I'm entering data like exam results or even dates. But just rows and rows of numbers? UGH. So bad. So so so bad.

And yes, this will be over on June 16. COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS.

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Spreadsheets are handy for things like that, but I have very limited skills with them. I can manage a personal budget with one, but that's about it.

Are you marking the days off on the calendar? I do that :D

[identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel when I have to work on a particular monstrosity that shall remain nameless.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
CONDOLENCES

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Understandings -- I feel that way whenever someone requires me to write a paper. Anytime I have to write out documentation at work beyond just a brief technical explanation, I get glarey.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish we could temporarily switch brains at mutually-convenient times. I feel like the two of us could rule the world.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)

I wish I could come and do it for you.
I'm not bothered by number spreadsheets at all.
I kind of like them, even. I'd do a hundred number spreadsheets before I'd dig into "teh motivations of The Author in this part of the story"
*shudder*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish you could come do this for me, too. UGH.

I have everything narrowed down to just one person who mysteriously has two transactions in the registration database, only one of which is showing on the payment side. '

I SHALL CONQUER THIS THOUGH

[identity profile] gansje.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
UGGGGHHHHHHHH. Spreadsheets are horrible in general, and then to have dyscalculia on top of it is rotten! Can you make pivot tables to calculate things for you, or are these spreadsheets not in excel?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I never learned to make pivot tables. I know what they are...um...vaguely? But this is more a matter of taking all the registration data from Software A (created by a web development team) and making sure it matches the financial data from Software B (the online payment system).

Very helpfully, the payment system software doesn't list names, so I have to check by payment amount and transaction code which is usually the first three letters of the registrant's last name and then three numerical digits. BUT NOT ALWAYS.

Sweet shrieking baby Jesus this is a nightmare.

[identity profile] gansje.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
oh. dear. god. that really is a nightmare. Here, in my userpic, have a woman with a gun for a leg. You will need this.

[identity profile] davesmusictank.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh hate spreadsheets too

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-21 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. Hello? Who are you?

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
UGH

I have it too, so I really feel your pain. UGH.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggggh

Sorry you have this problem, too. And the people who just don't get it, and rattle off phone numbers at the same speed the THIRD TIME you ask them? *rage*

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry. I hope it's over soon.

Ah hahahaha! Man, that show.

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2014-05-22 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you! I am GOOD at math, and I STILL hate dealing with finance crap; it is so stress-inducing.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I finally got it all cleared out at 3pm today. Over 24 hours after I started the project.

The type of vacation I need is the sort that's called "retirement."

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-05-23 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
STILL.
