More things to try, maybe

Yesterday I tried upping the weight on my deadlifts and maxed out at 135# for two reps. I tried for a single at 140# but I couldn't even get it off the ground. It was a weak day overall, though. I had troubles finishing the cleans-to-thrusters, too. The last two sets I had to do two, then take a rest before finishing the third rep of the set. And then I was muscularly fatigued all day (legs to tired to make it up a flight of stairs, generally achy, etc.). Went to bed early, slept about twenty minutes later than usual, and am still tired today. *sigh*

I'm considering trying a heart rate variability product. Between buying the HRV package and a heart rate monitor, though, that's Mega Big Bucks. Also, my body doesn't transmit well to heart rate monitors, and I'm a bit concerned about sinking the money into something that wouldn't even work for me on a basic level (regardless of if it actually helped).

Sunday I start the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet). This is not going to be easy or fun. It's the most restrictive eating experiment I've tried so far. At least I won't have to think much about food prep while [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick is busy with the summer CSSF activities.

oh man--if you are calling it restrictive, it has got to be narrow. Good luck!

Nothing but chicken soup (and I'm talking just chicken and the broth from cooking the chicken), pureed carrots, and precious little else for the first three to five days. And then I get to re-introduce things (still pureeing all the vegetables) one at a time for the next several weeks.

OH GOD.

Oh damn, reminds me of GAPS.

I think they're very similar.

Damn. Damn. I am rooting for you. I really don't know what else to say!

Thanks. It's always an adventure around here!

Ooof. I hope the diet helps.

What's the advantage of the heart rate thing? I took a quick look, but I didn't really understand it. (Disclaimer - I am also stoned out of my mind on xanax today.) Is it to help with the adrenal fatigue? Do you have any sort of option to rent or try it first before committing to it? Since you know your body doesn't transmit well to heart monitors, can they help you with what might work best for you?

The advantage of it is that it tells you what days you shouldn't push yourself. If you HRV is on one end of the scale, sure, go knock yourself out at the gym. If it's on the other, stick with a quiet walk or some restorative yoga. The results I've read about using this to determine one's suitability for daily exercise are pretty astounding. By only working hard on days that a body is prepared to work hard, athletes using this system have shown incredible gains by actually working less. Pretty amazing.

The HRV Bioforce people have a 90-day guarantee. Not sure about the actual heart rate monitor folks. I haven't written them yet.

Huh, that is really interesting. If the heart rate monitor works, that could be very cool for you!

Heya, I don't know if this is relevant, but I found it while searching out privacy concerns with a device like FitBit.
(can't get the embed link to work in a timely manner, thanks again LJ)

Thanks! Too bad they don't have a review for the Polar chest band, which is what I'm considering. OF COURSE.

GAH!!!
