I've noticed myself becoming more and more inflexible, despite my efforts to roll out regularly, walk several times a day, and just generally avoid death by sitting. I need to incorporate more slow and general movement, though, because those things aren't cutting it, judging by my constant feelings of soreness and fatigue. Here are some great tips from Breaking Muscle that go beyond just "stand up every hour."
I'm also thinking about getting regular massages. I've never had much luck with people giving me massages--I think because I need a lot more pressure than most people are comfortable giving. So I'm looking at folks who do deep-tissue and myofascial release. The person who does these things at Kinetikos (where I went for acupuncture and lymph drainage) is a former MFA student. I feel like it would be weird to be naked with her. Is this a reasonable thing? Just like I feel it would be super awkward to schedule a massage appointment with Coach Andrew. Is this illogical?
Regardless, does anyone have recommendations for anyone in Lawrence who does serious deep-tissue massage? I'm wondering if rolling out is not enough for my muscles and that's why I'm having problems with stiffness and fatigue. When I'm getting three heavy lifting days a week (as I enjoy doing), my limbs are incredibly fatigued all the time. Not stiff from DOMS, but actually, like, exhausted. To where it's all I can do to climb a flight of stairs or walk uphill. It took me almost twenty minutes to get up the hill today after my gym session.
Food related news: I successfully ate an avocado yesterday. And it was...not bad! I mashed it up with a can of tuna, added some salt, and it was pretty tasty. HURRAY! That's good news, because I can buy avocados anywhere and, provided they're not rock-hard when I purchase them, an avocado plus a packet of tuna equals easy travel food that isn't dried fruit or nuts. I also found duck eggs by the dozen for a ridiculously low price (less than $6!) at the Merc. They must have a new (and cheaper) supplier for duck eggs, which means I can afford to use them for more than just mayo. So I had some crispy chicken with a scrambled egg and pureed carrots on the side for breakfast this morning. Delicious. I feel pleasantly full, which is a nice change from my usual post-meal state. Mmmmm. Boy have I missed scrambled eggs.
I had my appointment with Dr. Khosh yesterday. My thyroid numbers look okay and great. Okay are the TSH/T4/T3 numbers. My T3 is still a little low, TSH and T4 holding steady. He tweaked the herbal tincture to boost that T3 a bit, but is keeping everything else the same because my TPO (thyroid antibodies) were down by more than half since February! I went from 242 to 106. Granted, the highest that number should be in a healthy person is 35, but damn! That's movement in the right direction. So obviously we're keeping that protocol, with and added bit of something (I have no idea what) in the thyroid tincture. The female hormone panel was pretty stable, with my progesterone dropping just a tad. We're keeping the same tincture, but I'll take a double dose a week to ten days before I expect my period to start. He's also putting me on a slightly stronger supplement to help boost my testosterone, hoping that might help with the muscle fatigue issues. And also, I'm sure not going to complain about extra testosterone. It's about half again as expensive as the other stuff, though, so it better work. I'm also trying a hydrochloric acid supplement (again) with meals. He gave the thumbs up to the pureed food thing, too, and said as long as I was feeling okay with it to keep it up.
Whether I'm going to keep going with the pureed food program once

I will ask around about a massage therapist. And no, I don't think it's weird that you're not really down with getting nekkid in front of one of your MFA students. I'm sure she's lovely and good at what she does, but massage is a pretty intimate and personal thing, and it can be awkward to have that with someone you've already established a professional relationship with.

But really, the name makes sense, it *is* found in every cell, organ and tissue in every mammal. It is a lipid soluble antioxidant that boosts energy production within the cells. It has anti-inflammatory properties and supposedly the more readily absorbed form of CoQ10 (although I'm finding studies that are iffy on that.. still, I'll go with what sounds reasonable and easiest to get into my body).
There are studies using it for muscle exhaustion, which is why I thought you may find it interesting.

Pretty sure we have our heavy meal at the end of the day because most of us work 8-5 and can't get home to prepare, eat, and recover from a large meal in the middle of the day. Our industrialized corporate culture sucks ass.

I asked Dr. Khosh for some recommendations and he mentioned a place in town that I'd already considered because 1. they have great hours, 2. they do deep tissue, and 3. all their Yelp reviews were five stars. My appointment is Monday afternoon!
