Glycogen stores

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] redheadfae for this link on waking up at 3am which is exactly what has happened to me three nights in a row this week. Including last night. But I still made it to the gym this morning.

RAWR.

As I mentioned to her, my carbs are super low on the SCD. And since I'm continuing to lift heavy, my glycogen stores are probably zero-to-nothing right now. It also coincides with what I've read about how women with thyroid issues need more carbs than most people because glycogen is what helps the liver do the T3/T4 conversion properly. So I'll be mixing up that little cocktail (probably with a little spoonful of magnesium for good measure) tonight!

I have to pass this along to a friend RIGHT NOW, she is having the 3am wake ups. Thanks!

I hope it works for both of us!!!

Meh. The feedback is meh.

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh crap... I think I need to be mixing up that cocktail too. I had a good bit of yes answers on that quiz. :(

Gurl, adrenal problems are THE WORST. It took me two years to get over my chronic fatigue issues and this past year to get to the point where I have energy to do stuff besides just survive. And even then it's not guaranteed I'll have the energy to do more than the minimum.

GOOD LUCK.

It explains a lot, actually. I mean, I know my work schedule is redonkulous and it's no wonder I'm always tired, but the tired after exercising bit and tired no matter how much I sleep bit are pretty big tells, I think.

Thank you! We'll see how it goes!

When I had my big this-is-it adrenal meltdown, I stopped exercising for almost two years. All I did was restorative yoga and gentle stuff like walking.

I always wanted to try yoga - someone told me it was great for losing weight, but I never thought I was flexible enough to do it properly.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no such thing as being too inflexible to do yoga. If a yoga teacher doesn't help you modify poses as your body can accommodate them, then leave the class and find a different one. Everyone can do yoga. EVERYONE.

There is nothing on this planet that is universally "great for losing weight" except starvation. Don't worry about making weight loss your priority. Health is more important than carrying extra fat. Did you see those amazing (and fat!) yoginis in that Tumblr collection I put up a few weeks ago?

Take it from me, if you're in adrenal fatigue, not sleeping, and under near-constant stress, you are not gonna lose weight. Do your mental and emotional state a favor and stop worrying about it. Get healthy instead. You can be healthy and fat at the same time and fuck anyone who says different.

Actually, no I didn't but now that I found it, I'm giving it serious consideration. Those were amazing!

My mission for next week, aside from the not smoking in the car thing, is to find yoga, either online or at the university or something, that I can do.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!!!!!!!! THAT MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY!

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I found a couple of online yoga videos that I can do either in the mornings or evenings, all depending on my work schedule. I might even be able to do them at lunch if I can find a quiet secluded wifi hotspot somewhere on this campus.

I'm excited to try it :)

One of my troupe mates is a yoga teacher, she is a big proponent of Yin Yoga. You hold the positions for a long time to let your body release into them. I've found it helps me make some inroads into really inflexible spots and helps focus and calm my brain, too.

And yes, if you go to a teacher make sure s/he provides modifications for different abilities! There is no one-right yoga for everyone and the teacher needs to go with that.

I have a friend that uses a Yoga app on his phone and I'm thinking that might be a good route to take. I'm absolutely willing to give it a try - I always thought that yoga was for thin people. I'm glad to learn that it really is for anyone :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-07-01 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! This makes me so happy! Yes!

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I am totally sharing this with my sister. We both wake up at 4:00 a.m. and get little sympathy because it is just "getting old."

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-06-27 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me know if it works for either/both of you.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-06-28 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I am soooo glad this is helpful.. I really really want to tell every woman I know about it.

[identity profile] siro-gravity.livejournal.com 2014-06-28 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
hope it works!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-06-28 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, last night I woke at 1:30 and 4:00 for about half an hour each instead of at 3:00 for an hour...baby steps?

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2014-06-30 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
So why am I waking up at 5AM?

My liver must be lazy.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-06-30 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha!

I wake up at 5am just 'cos that's when I wake up.
