Starting the trip back home

I'm trying to arrange my luggage so my carry-on bag isn't quite so burdensome. We've got a layover in Las Vegas and I don't want to lug too much around. I've decided that my Danskos, which I've had since 2006, which were the only pair of shoes I took to Italy in 2007, which have been resoled three times, which have had the buckles replaced on each foot once, which have been re-stitched twice, and which are now losing the leather along the rim of the upper where it touches my ankle, are staying in San Diego.

Thanks, Danskos. You've been great, but you're heavy and I have two other identical pairs, new and still in their boxes, back home.

You have walked many miles, Danskos. Enjoy your retirement.

I left my boots in Amsterdam for much the same reason.

I'd have been tempted to tie them together and toss them over a power line there. Just because I've always wanted to do that.

It's said that if you leave something behind, you'll get to go back.

Well, I'll certainly be back because Paul and Amy. Being back for Comic-Con, not so sure... =)

I'd go back and make a run for the border ;) Farmacia!

I gave serious consideration to doing the same thing with my boots that I took to Texas for cosplay purposes. I actually wear the stupid things though, so I ended up checking a bag instead. :S

Also, have a safe trip home, doll!

It was a loooooong trip home, but it was safe!

How long was your flight, anyway? I've only ever done NC to Dallas and Dallas to Omaha.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-07-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The non-stop there was like...a bit over three hours? I think? The flight home was delayed and then we have a layover with a delayed flight so it was...well. Long.

Argh :( I'm glad you made it safely though!

Housemate took me Dansko shopping today, but the 40 is too big and the 39 is too small, which is tragic, because we get a medical centre discount and I want them sooooo badly.

The 41s are a teensy bit too big for me, but I just wear thick insoles. Maybe try bringing some insoles with you to try on?

OH SAD!!!!
bye bye Danskos.

I love the idea of lightening the load on the way home. It seems so liberating. Someone once told me a story about wearing old clothes to travel in, because she would then just abandon them at her destination. I've always wanted to try that, but I usually go places where I want to look nice. I'm always threatening the Nonesuch that sometime when I come for a visit, I won't pack at all. I'll bring a brown paper bag with some underwear and t-shirts in it. I really have to do that at least once in my life . . . .

I love that idea. Yes! But like you, I could only do that visiting relatives...or, like a trip to the Badlands or something.

Re: Badlands trip = yes.

As long as there is NO CAMPING involved.
