Worn out

I'm typing up an overall write-up of SDCC for tomorrow, to coincide with my Tumblr collection tomorrow--my best of photos of this year's Comic-Con. I don't know that I'll have the stop-motion film of the GoPro footage done. I don't even have appropriate software yet.

This week--and I haven't even really been home for a week yet--has been so incredibly long and wearying. Ugh. Both my flights home were delayed, so I didn't get to Lawrence until nearly 2am. I was pretty useless on Tuesday and called in an extra vacation day so I only worked Thursday and Friday last week but those two days felt like twenty. The weekend was great and seemed to fly by (I got very little of substance done), but most of it passed by in a haze.

Of course there were the hives, which actually started on Thursday but didn't come into full bloom until late Friday. They're beginning to go down now, but my back and upper arms are still pretty itchy. They're how my body decided to react to some soap. This is what I get for being romantical and showering with [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick in the upstairs bathroom.

Sunday brought my period and some spectacular cramping but staying home is not an option. I've got shit to do to get ready for the new incoming graduate students and the other secretary is out for the whole week. So I'm here with my tea and microwave beanbag. GOOD TIMES.

BUT!

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I saw two movies this weekend: Guardians of the Galaxy and Hercules, both of which we enjoyed immensely. GotG was as good as I hoped (WHEW!), but Hercules was...oh, man. It was more than I could have asked for. Loved it! If you're at all a fan of The Rock (and really, who doesn't like The Rock even just a little bit?) and you like twists on legends (a la Xena), I think you'd like Hercules. Also, can I just say--ZERO NAKED LADY BREASTS IN THIS MOVIE. Not even shitting you. I'm not gonna say it's a feminist movie, but I was pretty happy with the women in this flick, and the way that sexual violence was never used as a threat against them.

Other than those movies, though, I didn't do shit. I didn't even go grocery shopping. I washed the sheets, yay. I still have clean underwear for a few more days, so the rest of the laundry can wait. Because what with the hives (which knocks my entire immune system for a loop for a week or more) and the cramping, I still haven't physically recovered from the trip and y'all, my ass is dragging.

Five and a half more hours until I can go home, sit on the couch, and watch the last three episodes of Penny Dreadful. God, four o'clock cannot come soon enough.

ETA: I nearly forgot! So the fanart that I did for Tatau for the due South Sekrit Santa finally made it to her home. I sent it before I left for Comic-Con and she wrote to tell me it arrived and she already got it framed and hanging in her home! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Between the late flights and the hives, you had enough to make you feel worn out without the cramps, I'd say. Boo to hives and cramps!

I'm looking forward to your SDCC report! And I'm so glad you enjoyed both GotG and Hercules! I really wish I could've afforded to do a double feature iwth Hercules but it just wasn't happening. :(

Girl, I will send you ten dollars via PayPal RIGHT NOW if it means you buy yourself a ticket to see Hercules in theaters. Those thighs need to be seen on a big screen. I'm just sayin'.

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2014-08-04 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I do plan to see it in the theater (I hope!) but I need a night off from work to make that happen. I could be a real jerk and sneak out to go see it before work on Saturday and leave the kids at home. I'm tempted.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-04 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, but for serious, if it comes down to $$$, just send me a message. You deserve to see this on a big screen, bb.

That is awesome! The art, not the body woes. (My body picked this week for cripplingly bad cramps too; I spent the morning curled up on the couch moaning, thank goodness I didn't have school)

I am looking forward to your comic con tumblr collection.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-04 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU! I can't tell you how wiggly it makes me to see MY ART hanging in SOMEONE ELSE'S HOME.

I just, just...

Sorry you're having cramps, too. BOO HISS.

Thank you, bb <3 I really appreciate that and I will let you know if that's what it comes down to

love the piece you made, and so cool to see it on somebody's wall!

Your description of Hercules sounds right up my alley...I've got that on my list (after the Tilda movie).

I think you need more time off work.

I think you need more time off work.

AGREED. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I aren't very good at buying lottery tickets. Perhaps alas.

I could go on and on about the Hercules movie. It was everything I wanted and better than I expected. What a combo!

[identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com 2014-08-04 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have to break down and go see both of those movies. How lovely that sexual violence was not used for leverage against the female characters in Hercules. Refreshing!

(KC saw Lucy over the weekend, and said that it was even worse than expected. And she expected it to be pretty fucking terrible.

It was... TERRIBLE BAD. :::shudder:::

Hope your immune system calms down sooner than you expect.

Everything you said about Hercules!! I said budget be damned and we went to see it on Saturday night. (Okay I had a teeeny weeny annoyance with the sappy kid bit, but yes.. I'll take that over gratuitous tits and rape scenes.)
The supporting cast was simply marvelous. Of course, I'm a sucker for Ian McShane and he delivered in spades.

Oh your art! That's so so awesome.
And I do hope you recover from the trip very soon.

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Jeez, it's not too surprising that you haven't recovered from the trip yet, what with the hives and cramps. Ugh. Sorry your flight was delayed. I used to love air travel, but lately it has been a drag.

Thanks for the good review of Hercules. It's not something I would probably have considered, but if you liked it that much, I wanna see it. I'm told that Samuel Delany reviewed it favorably on Facebook, so you're in interesting though weird company.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick keeps saying things like BUT IT'S NOT RACIST and WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO SEE IT and I'm like "Dude, no. Just stop." I mean, fine if he wants to see it, but I'm gonna trust the people I trust who say it's crap.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sappy Kid held his own when he convinced people of the Magical Armor, though. I loved that bit! I didn't know Ian McShane before, but yep, he was FANTASTIC.

So glad you liked it, too!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)

Seeeeee iiiiiiiit. You will have so much fun.

[identity profile] zitronenhai.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
In addition to just being... really lousy, it's is just full of junk science, the likes of which has long since been well and truly debunked. This movie should have come out in the late 1980s, even though it would still be crap, it would maybe have seemed less crappy? I would still have skipped it, but the list of movies I haven't seen shocks some people.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He was in Death Race with Jason Statham, but by far, he was best as Al Swearingen in Deadwood series. (and he's a Lancashire lad, gotta love my homeboy).

Oh, by Sappy Kid bit, I meant Arius. It's another plot peeve of my own: "I did it all to save my child" as motivation for women's stories.
But I was willing to overlook for the rest of the cast and story.
Speaking of mercenaries, I'm looking forward to The Expendables 3. I know, it'll probably disappoint, but gotta love all the aged beefcake.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-05 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooh. God, for a moment, I'd completely forgotten there was an actual child involved. =D

FUCK YES EXPENDABLES 3.
