That felt good

Recent hormone wonkiness and my lack of energetic movement due to injury and exhaustion has added a couple inches in the last month--about two around my waist and an inch and a half around my hips. My thighs and upper arms are larger, too, judging from the fit of my clothes (although I didn't measure them before so can't tell for sure). Basically, though, I had maybe five pieces of clothing that were an acceptable fit.

So today I went to Goodwill with fingers crossed. Came out with a ton of stuff (including three pairs of jeans holy crap). It's mostly knits, which are not my preference for office wear, but are more forgiving of size changes. I found two pairs of those fake-dress-trouser-yoga-pants that make my ass look fucking amazing (a black pair and a brown pair!). And I allowed myself one suede jacket that fits my upper arms without being too terribly big across the chest and shoulders. I also picked up some things for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, including a 70s vintage cashmere sweater. I spent $147 and averaged about $5 per item.

I also stopped by Kohl's to use a $20 coupon to buy new panties (because those amazing trousers required high-waist briefs that don't press a line across my hips) and found a scarf that will be amazing re-purposed into a dance costume ($8). Then I took a chance at the consignment store (where I had a $5 credit!) and found a jersey wrap thing (it's almost time for layers! my favorite!) and a sequin tank top on sale which I would usually roll my eyes at a sequin tank top, but then thought how killer it would look under one of my military-style jackets.

I feel so much better about not looking like a stuffed sausage in my clothes.

Sure got a lot of laundry to do, now.

OOH, yay for great finds!
I'm intrigued by "fake dress trouser yoga pants"?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Those ones that look like dress pants but are made of super soft and stretchy fabric so they feel like yoga pants. These even have pockets and a front fly!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
OH OH OH and you should thank your lucky stars you couldn't come with me. I spent TWO HOURS at Goodwill.

It's so good to hear you happy and excited! Yay!

Also, I'm dying to see pix of your sequin top. Too awesome!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try to remember to get a pic of it when I wear it. No promises, but will do my best.

And yeah, it feels SO GOOD to feel good today.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They sound amazing. I'll have to look for these Magical Pants. Especially since it sounds like they are longer in the rise than the usual pants.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
haha.. I've been known to do that once in a great while.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! They're actual Dress Trousers! They're in the wash now, but I'll try to remember to check the brands for you.

Damn, what a great haul! Clothes shopping can be such utter hell, but it sounds like you scored big time today. \O/

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-16 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never had such good luck at a single thrift store, and it feels SO GOOD that I managed to conjure some luck today when my soul really needed it.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for sartorial success! Your finds sound amazing!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm on a mission to figure out how to layer knits.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've been doing some knit layering with my current body changes. I've found that once I'm dressed, and got shoulders and sleeves where I want them, the knits will cling to each other a little bit, and stay where I've put them

I have some Magic Pants that sound similar, and they really are great. Clothes that fit/look good/feel good + cheap = Full of Win!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
SO MUCH WIN.

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
That's fantastic thrift store mojo! Especially the magic pants. I keep intending to buy some, then putting it off due to price.

Oh I love looking for outfits and workwear at Goodwill. I don't even want to buy new clothes anymore!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hooray for thrift stores. Seriously.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I don't either. I don't know what it says about my fashion sense, but I rarely find things I like at regular department stores. High end boutiques and funky trendy shops, sure. But I certainly can't afford that! I love piecing outfits together from thrift store finds, though.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes, please do!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-17 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
One is Chico's and the other I can't remember now.

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2014-08-18 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
for some reason, you are blocked on my home computer. I guess it knows you ;)

Anyway, this is a fantastic score. I know how much mental energy can be bound up in clothing, so I am so happy you don't feel like a sausage anymore!

Jealous, I never have such luck at thrift stores! If course I'm also super picky.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-08-18 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm picky, but I'm also kind of conservative when it comes to clothing (believe it or not). Solid-color tees are the basis of my wardrobe and I own upwards of twenty in different colors and sleeve lengths. I don't look for statement-making pieces at thrift stores--I look for basics to build on. Occasionally I'll find a funky piece and that's always exciting. But most of the time I'm buying the plain, generic stuff that's usually in good supply at thrifts. And, of course, I always check the displays for scarves, belts, and ties.

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-08-18 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Accessories are the first things I check! I'm a basics person too, I'm also picky about details and fabric. I did recently find a fabulous embroidered pink gingham shirt for a costume!

There is a population of women in this town who shed their decent name-brand last-season clothing almost every year. Talbot's, Chico's, Lauren. I love those women's careless and spendthrift attitudes. LOVE THEM.

Most here is, sadly, crap
