That felt good

Recent hormone wonkiness and my lack of energetic movement due to injury and exhaustion has added a couple inches in the last month--about two around my waist and an inch and a half around my hips. My thighs and upper arms are larger, too, judging from the fit of my clothes (although I didn't measure them before so can't tell for sure). Basically, though, I had maybe five pieces of clothing that were an acceptable fit.

So today I went to Goodwill with fingers crossed. Came out with a ton of stuff (including three pairs of jeans holy crap). It's mostly knits, which are not my preference for office wear, but are more forgiving of size changes. I found two pairs of those fake-dress-trouser-yoga-pants that make my ass look fucking amazing (a black pair and a brown pair!). And I allowed myself one suede jacket that fits my upper arms without being too terribly big across the chest and shoulders. I also picked up some things for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, including a 70s vintage cashmere sweater. I spent $147 and averaged about $5 per item.

I also stopped by Kohl's to use a $20 coupon to buy new panties (because those amazing trousers required high-waist briefs that don't press a line across my hips) and found a scarf that will be amazing re-purposed into a dance costume ($8). Then I took a chance at the consignment store (where I had a $5 credit!) and found a jersey wrap thing (it's almost time for layers! my favorite!) and a sequin tank top on sale which I would usually roll my eyes at a sequin tank top, but then thought how killer it would look under one of my military-style jackets.

I feel so much better about not looking like a stuffed sausage in my clothes.

Sure got a lot of laundry to do, now.

Jealous, I never have such luck at thrift stores! If course I'm also super picky.

I'm picky, but I'm also kind of conservative when it comes to clothing (believe it or not). Solid-color tees are the basis of my wardrobe and I own upwards of twenty in different colors and sleeve lengths. I don't look for statement-making pieces at thrift stores--I look for basics to build on. Occasionally I'll find a funky piece and that's always exciting. But most of the time I'm buying the plain, generic stuff that's usually in good supply at thrifts. And, of course, I always check the displays for scarves, belts, and ties.

Accessories are the first things I check! I'm a basics person too, I'm also picky about details and fabric. I did recently find a fabulous embroidered pink gingham shirt for a costume!

There is a population of women in this town who shed their decent name-brand last-season clothing almost every year. Talbot's, Chico's, Lauren. I love those women's careless and spendthrift attitudes. LOVE THEM.
