Ugh. I want to be leaving work right now, as I've done since the last day of Spring finals (May 16). But no. Now that classes are in session, it's back to 5pm closing time.

I went to KU's HandsUpWalkOut today. It was hot (99 degrees) and sunny and I thoughtlessly wore all black. As I stood on the cement in front of my office building, sweat pouring down my face, my back, my chest, I repeated to myself that the protesters in Ferguson faced tear gas, arrest, and bullets. I could stand there for half an hour in the heat, safe from everything except perhaps a slight sunburn.

Go you.

Thanks. I admit I might have been a leetle judgey toward the people who stood way in the back, in the shade.

I think wearing all black is totally appropriate for mournig the victims, even if you didn't mean it that way.

I thought about that, I was standing out there. I noticed a man in all black, too, and I wondered.

Yay for you! And yay for KU for having a demonstration. Good thing I read this before complaining about our weather, heh. I forgot what it was like living in Kansas and Texas, when 90+ temperatures and broiling sun were a way of life.

hope you didn't get burnt!

I'm amazed that I didn't, honestly. I was out there for at least half an hour with my hands in the air nearly the whole time. I'm a teensy bit freckled on my upper arms, but that's about it.

I've read a lot about how eating a non-inflammatory diet and small but regular exposure to sun (my paleo diet and multiple daily walks) increase one's tolerance for the sun. I kind of wonder if that's what's going on for me, 'cos I should have been just a wee bit pink, at least.

It got up to 100F yesterday, but at least it waited until after noon.
