Happy Halloween

Has anyone else tried cooking with chia seeds? This pudding recipe sounds interesting.

Here's my costume for this year. I'm Softcore Victorian Porn.

Varla just didn't work out. I couldn't get my eyebrows sufficiently hidden to do the makeup. Oh well. Maybe some other time when I have the inclination to get some heavy-duty concealing stage makeup.

You pulled a costume and look like that out of your ear. I'm boggled, and you're all, oh well. I bow to you.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I already had all the pieces from previous costumes. When you're 44 with no kids you gotta find some way to spend time and money. For a long time, mine was costuming. =)

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
nice. I'm not dressed up for work but I'm going to dress as a flapper tonight. It is one of the few costumes I haven't gotten rid of and I realized this week the last time I wore it was 10 years ago (when I actually put time and effort into my Halloween costumes), so it is a good costume! If I can figure out what to do with my hair.

I hope I still have my cancan skirt somewhere. I am not sure where it is, but I can't imagine I would have gotten rid of it after all the lace and gathering.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
But...flappers didn't wear petticoats? Or are you talking about two different costumes?

For flapper hair, I'd put it up in two low, messy buns near the nape of your neck or over your ears and then wear some type of headband. Kind of like this look here (http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0115/5522/products/Danani_Flapper-IMG_0875-Edit-Edit_1024x1024.jpg?v=1368460825).

sorry about the non-sequitur. I was thinking about the "good" costumes from years gone by. I ended up doing a wig (which I already had) but didn't get a picture.

[identity profile] seascribe.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Fabulous! I really dig this costume (both the aesthetic and the name, heh).

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! Thank you!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU LOOK AMAZING!!!!

[identity profile] miischelle.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
By the by, if I can ever by a corset off you and you have time to make one...lemme know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You would SO not get value for your money from me. My corsetry skills are minimal and super slow. If you want one, best to buy one from someone who knows better what they're doing.

Va Va Voom!

Super hawt.

We use chia seeds in pretty much every smoothy, make various puddings (texture is more like tapioca; recipes abound on the internet), use them in various bread/cake recipes and also use them (with ground flax, parmesan cheese and various flavorings) as a breading for chicken. Also, this is delicious: almond bars with raspberry chia jam (http://www.conveganence.com/almond-breakfast-bars-with-protein-packed-raspberry-jam/). So, yeah, we use chia seeds a lot. Close to daily.

Fantastic! Tapioca pudding is one of the things I really miss, so this is great info. Thank you!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_luaineach/ 2014-10-31 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya, I love tapioca. I also make a less healthy than chia, but more true tapioca texture version out of "miracle rice." like this (http://mariamindbodyhealth.com/tapioca-pudding-3/)

Paint me three shades of impressed- despite not feeling well, you pulled of an incredibly clever costume that looks fantastic, too! I know it's not what you planned, but it's still wonderful!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, thanks! It's kind of a repeat from a costume I did a few years ago, but it's still fun.

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
^^ this is exactly what I was thinking!
Great look all around.
(You saw how much effort I put into a holiday I'm normally at least interested in.)

Have a great weekend.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! Thank you! And your tee shirt is faboo.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2014-10-31 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
One unexpected benefit to low traffic on LJ today is that every time I open up my Friends page today, there you are. Getting me through the day for sure.

[identity profile] mildred-bobbin.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
You look great!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! You and yours looked pretty fab, too! I hope y'all enjoy your new-found Halloween shenanigans. Parts of the way it's celebrated here are kind of crappy, but for the most part, MAN I love this holiday.

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That's a killer costume adjustment. Very lovely. And clever.

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice corset! But I think it's the very genre-appropriate cheeky expression that makes the costume.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have Saucy Photo Face down to an art.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You look fabulous!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-02 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I felt really good yesterday. Today's been a good energy day, too. MAN I LOVE THOSE DAYS.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-11-01 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the revisit! I love, love, love that chemise.

I've made a smoothie thing with Chia Seeds, it was interesting.. in a good way. Sort of gellish and nutty flavored.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-02 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! This chemise was such a PITA because of course I had to alter the skirt to be fuller, which you know what a nightmare that is, trying to keep everything at the correct angle to the grain...UGH. But yeah, it sure turned out nice.

I'm gonna pick up some Chia seeds next time I'm at Costco.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2014-11-03 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember where i got mine.. I think Natural Grocers.

Um, you going to make up that spice blend soon?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-03 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Uuuughghghghgh thank you for the reminder. GOD. I completely spaced it. I'll make it tonight.

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-11-02 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Loki took my boyfriend out to dinner for his birthday and then to a party. Gotta wear that helmet somewhere!

By all you hold holy, do NOT buy the Chia Pod pudding you can get at the store. Blech. Make your own at home. I've done it with coconut milk, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and chia seeds. Not bad, not really pudding but works if you can't have the traditional stuff. Check out the blog Oh She Glows, she uses it a lot. The Endurance Crackers are YUM!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-11-02 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh! Thanks for the blog recs!

And yeah, pretty much any pre-made food is usually (I think) kinda crappy.

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-11-03 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
My reaction was, "People buy this crap? It tastes like glue with cinnamon on it!"
