December 10, Day One

I planned to do this the last ten days of 2014 but then I realized I might not have the opportunity to post on the weekends and the days of holidays themselves might be dicey (because I have great plans to be NOT SOBER for, like, five days in a row). Instead, I'm posting these as a countdown for the work days I have until my five-day weekend for the holiday. The State of Kansas is giving us a half day on the 24th, and full days for the 25th and 26th so of course I am taking four hours of vacation on Wednesday the 24th because ain't nobody needs to be here for four hours on Xmas Eve.

SO STARTING TODAY. FUCK YES. TEN WORK DAYS TO STATE EMPLOYEE FIVE DAY HOLIDAY. AW YEAH.

Day One: Ten random facts about yourself.
Day Two: Nine things you do everyday.
Day Three: Eight things that annoy you.
Day Four: Seven fears/phobias.
Day Five: Six songs that you’re addicted to.
Day Six: Five things you can’t live without.
Day Seven: Four memories you won’t forget.
Day Eight: Three words you can’t go a day without using.
Day Nine: Two things you wish you could do.
Day Ten: One person you can trust

1. I love food to the point that I occasionally prefer eating to sex
2. I don't think farts are funny but I think burps are hilarious
3. I am so bad at remembering birthdays I don't even try anymore
4. I have a collection of songs for fanvids that I will never make
5. I've had only three celebrity crushes in my entire life
6. I still miss my Fetish girl so much I cry if I think about her for more than a few seconds
7. I am a very good cook
8. I like receiving socks as a gift
9. I enjoy looking at other people's vacation photos
10. I think I'm pretty awesome

This is a great idea. I think I will do this as well; it will be a good way to get out of my posting funk.

I am with you on the eating. 110%.

I read your post about Fetish and now I'm crying. What a wonderful tribute to her. I'm sorry you don't still have her.

Aw, I didn't mean to make you cry, too. She was such a good, good kitty. God, I loved her SO MUCH.

I look forward to reading your responses! YAY!

I have a Nellie cat that I still miss like hell three years later, so I think I was projecting a little.

Also \0/ for five day holiday weekend! I'm envious as fuck. So glad you get an extended break!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry for the loss of your Nellie. Pets are hard. I'm pretty sure I'll never have another one. I can't deal with the emotional investment.

So glad you get an extended break!

Imma read ALL THE FIC.

Fic binges are the best. Do you reread fic or just new stuff?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to clear out my massive collection of unread bookmarked fic right now--except for the WIPs because I don't read WIPs. But knowing me, at some point I'll re-read Performance In a Leading Role because I already re-read Roses of Picardy a couple weeks ago and those are my two comfort fics.

Definitely on the agenda is Method Act, though, because I haven't had time to read it since Splix finished it and it's been taunting me for two months because I know I'm gonna wanna read the whole damn thing in one sitting. AAAAAH CAN'T WAIT!

Edit: If you've got recs, though, I'll take 'em!

Yes, I love those both, especially Roses of Picardy. I haven't started Method Act yet, but I can't wait to dive into it.

What are your favorite kind of fics? What makes you click right out? I can rec fics, but I want to be sure I'm in the ballpark with them.

edited to add: who are your celebrity crushes?

I love angsty-angst-angst but it's gotta have a happy ending. I don't read anything below an M rating unless it's amazingly good (I am all about the pr0n). I don't like threesomes (alas). I prefer long and plotty (and angsty), but PWP works for me if there's some sort of background or lead-up or if it's humorous. Pennydreadful's De Facto is a perfect example that hits all three of those. I don't usually go for established relationship fic, but man, that one is just GOLD.

Pairings I read regularly:
Sherlock/John in any incarnation (canon, Granada, all of it)
Marcus/Esca (although I prefer AUs for them because ancient history settings just don't do it for me)
Arthur/Eames
Fraser/RayK
Kirk/Spock (TOS and reboot)
If you can find good Brian/Bender (Breakfast Club) fic out there that I haven't yet read, I will ADORE you

Pairings I read if I'm in the mood and they're really good:
Tony/Steve
Harry/Draco
Merlin/Arthur (from the BBC show)
and I'd certainly be up for more Jamie/Jim since Roses is the only thing in that fandom I've read

I'm also happy to read femslash of any of those. I gotta find a show where I ship some ladies. But...I just really like dicks.

Oh! My celebrity crushes have been: Nick Rhodes when I was 14, Keanu Reeves when The Matrix came out, and Tom Hiddleston. I don't crush easily, but those three hit me like a ton of bricks.

Nick Rhodes!! My first major celebrity crush was Roger Taylor! DD is still my sentimental favorite. I put on Seven and the Ragged Tiger and boom, happy place.

I don't crush easily either: Roger Taylor, River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves (fist bump), Laurence Fox. BC comes close though. Depends on my mood.

But anyway, fic recs! I will work up some recs for you in time for your holiday break. They will most likely be Sherlock/John only (I think we've probably read the same Brian/Bender fics since there aren't a lot).

Duran Duran was a fantastically underrated band because (surprise) they were popular with teenage girls. Their old albums hold up brilliantly, and their new stuff is pretty good too (although I was not a fan of Liberty).

Re: Keanu, this (http://www.whoaisnotme.net/articles/images/vf9508wil2.jpg) was my desktop wallpaper for a LONG time.

The only song on Liberty that I really like is "Violence of Summer." For some reason, I used to love blaring that when I took showers. But yes, DD is amazing. I got to see them in 1989 and 2005 and they were just as amazing live in 2005 as they were back in the 80s.

Oooo, Keanu. God, he's lovely.

I got to see them in 1989 and 2005

JELIS!!!!

[identity profile] write-out.livejournal.com 2014-12-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
When they were at the height of their popularity in 1984, I was in the sixth grade and really, really wanted to go. However, the night of their concert was also the night of our band concert and Mrs Burse, the band teacher, told us that anyone who didn't play that night because they went to see DD would get an F. So I didn't get to go. I'm still bitter.

(and really, I highly doubt my mom would have let me go anyway, since I was 12. but I like to blame Mrs. Burse)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-12-14 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Heck, I was 14 and my mom wouldn't let me go. Of course, I have no idea if they played anywhere near where I lived. Kansas City would've been the closest, and that would have been a four hour drive. Not many big name bands come to south-central Kansas. =/

I think you're pretty damn awesome too! :D

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way I remember birthdays is if I know more than one person who shares it. Like even my own mom - could not remember hers until a friend had a tiny human on her birthday.

Also, you are pretty awesome.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-12-10 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember mine, my parents', and [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's. Mine because it's such a good date: First month, last day. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's mostly because it's July 4. The other two through repeated exposure and sheer force of will.

And thank you, bb. Back at you.

I too think you are pretty (damn) awesome.

Also, AWWW YEAH, five day drunk holiday, it's gonna be good. :D

Oh I love that you started this today!

And I love you so much. Dear sweet Fetish.

Although I have to show up for half of Xmas Eve, I decided to cash in ETO for the day after and forgo working on the holiday.. so yay! 4 1/2 days off for me, too!!

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2014-12-11 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm right there with you on 7, 8, and 9. And like so many others, I agree that you are awesome. ; )

I think you're pretty awesome too!

That was an absolutely beautiful tribute to your kitty.
