December 15, Day four

Day One: Ten random facts about yourself.
Day Two: Nine things you do everyday.
Day Three: Eight things that annoy you.

Day Four: Seven fears/phobias.
Day Five: Six songs that you’re addicted to.
Day Six: Five things you can’t live without.
Day Seven: Four memories you won’t forget.
Day Eight: Three words you can’t go a day without using.
Day Nine: Two things you wish you could do.
Day Ten: One person you can trust

There are only two things that unreasonably terrify me--things that scare me so much I cannot react or behave rationally when exposed to them. Those things are:
1. Spiders and 2. Deep water

They frighten me so much that anything else pales in comparison. I can't even look at pictures of spiders without becoming agitated (I physically shudder and have to look away), and while pictures of the ocean are okay (or nature shows with sea animals), the thought of being in a boat on deep water or (gods forbid) in the water evokes a nasty adrenaline response. In movies where people are in danger underwater (like a leaking submarine or sinking ship), I have to close my eyes and cover my ears. There are parts of The Abyss (which is a great movie, and I've watched it a few times) I have never and will never see.

The following things make me nervous or uncomfortable, but aren't fears/phobias (I know from phobias and being even really scared of something is not a phobia):
3. White men in groups of two or more
4. Being lifted off the ground/carried
5. Performing anything that isn't improvised
6. Being unable to improve my health and becoming increasingly incapacitated as I age
7. Aggressive dogs

We have 5 & 6 in common.

Spiders. Nope nope nope. That's a huge fear of mine too. Can. Not. Handle.

Deep water freaks me out when it comes to sharks. I am absolutely terrified of them. They can attack in knee deep water! Sneaking up one night to watch Jaws when I was a kid fucked me up but good. However, I love shark documentaries whereas I can't even look at a pic of a spider.

Spiders, man.

I don't fear spiders at all and I love deep water, but I am totally with you on white men in groups of two or more. Sometimes, one is enough.

TRUTH.

Edit: Also, I always think of you when I think about my phobias because I know how much you like both of them and it reminds me that phobias really are completely irrational things and I should find a way to just GET OVER THEM already but then I think about actually doing aversion therapy and I get heart palpitations.

Oh man, three, so much three. Nothing unreasonable there.

Nope. Not a damn thing.

I know exactly how you feel about one and two. Oddly, my aversion to spiders now means that if I can, I'll catch them in see-through containers and throw them outside, rather than come within squishing range. I don't want to touch them, even through a piece of paper.

The deep water thing probably just comes from growing up here. :-/
