Driven to tears

Almost, anyway, from this fucking bodice. Seriously not having fun with it. I got the channels sewn into the mockup last night, pieced all four layers together, turned it right side out, and the lining pulls dreadfully. All puckery and yuck. Even after I trimmed the seam allowances down to nearly nothing. It's also way too short, I fear. I wailed and gnashed my teeth for several minutes before giving up and going to bed last night. After sleeping on it, I think I will try again with the "real" bodice fabric (that I cut longer in the waist) and instead of using two heavy layers (denim) for the interlinings with the boning channels, use only one heavy layer with one light layer of plain quilter's cotton. I hope that will help the pucker issue. I don't know what else to try.

It's very hard for me to work on something for three goddamn hours and see absolutely no progress. It's even harder to put in all this time and effort and not even know if it's going to fit. All in all quite frustrating and not rewarding in the slightest. I even skipped yoga class to work on this and it seems all for naught.

What I really want is someone to hold my hand while I make one of these. Not even the whole thing--just this last finishing bit. It's such a small, simple thing. Why am I having such difficulty with it? I want to throw it on the ground and jump up and down on it while wearing baseball cleats.

While this does not make me feel better, it at least made the corners of my mouth turn up a little bit:

UPDATE: I have been saved! A goddess has offered to help me out with the bodice this weekend. I'm feeling soooo much better now.

My dear, bodices are not easy to make, by any means. It is a complex garment. Unfortunately it sounds as if the Folkwear pattern is as all Folkwear patterns...look great when they are done, but are a massive pain in the ass to make...(I remember my mother wanting to kill me over the Poet's blouse).

We will get you hooked up one way or another. If Catherine cannot help you, I will have my mother dig out the bodice pattern I use. It is a vest variation, which employs darts to make up for the bust to waist ratio. Fairly simple to build, although fitting is a might challenging. The boning goes on last. As of Saturday, you'll have two weeks to get one up (and you can start the faire with only one if necessary).

Thanks for the help and support. I'm starting to doubt my sewing abilities. Sigh!

And if that doesn't work out, I can lend you the cleats. I also have a bat.

I might still do that to the old one to make it pay for the grief it caused me.

Fire. Fire is good.

Sorry it's been such a frustration!

Good for you!

PS: I got "Elijah Wood -- You lucky biatch..." and I don't even want him. You want him? I'll send him over when he's done washing my car.

Sure, I'll take him. I could use some help with the laundry. I mean he's cute and all (you know, just in case he's reading this) but he is more of a little brother type.
