Off my ass

I finished the apron as soon as I got home from work! Yay, new apron that doesn't look like it was used to wipe down an engine! Which it might have actually done, maybe, probably, at one point! I'm going to make a second one, too, so I can rotate and launder them more easily. Aprons are just so handy, you guys. So handy.

Still no word on the furlough situation. The legislature has seventeen hours to pass something. I'm not getting my hopes up about either option happening. When it comes to Kansas politics, that's pretty much the best course of action.

If I do have time off without pay there is a lot of stuff I could get done. I have a burning desire to do a Furiosa altered portrait (example of a Wonder Woman portrait I did, here). I'd like the time to do more than just think about the Iron Man assemblage piece I've been building in my head (based around a kids Iron Man mask and glove that [livejournal.com profile] mckitterickpicked up for me at a garage sale couple years ago). I've given up on finding anyone local to give me lessons on my serger (I couldn't even get people to respond to my emails. What is up with that I have no idea. RUDE). So I emailed the three KC sewing machine stores hoping for some responses. Of course that would entail going to KC during the day but if I'm not going to the office, welp, that makes that easier. So many options for staying busy!

I'm about thirty seconds away from getting sucked into a fic-reading marathon while [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick slumbers upstairs so I best get myself into my sewing room to cut the other apron because I let myself read fic for an hour and a half last night and I really don't want to spend my entire morning on my ass. Again.

Ciao, bellas. Have a beautiful Saturday.

Awww.. hey, silver linings! but ofcoursesinceyouhavealternativeplans.. well . you know. At least the lesser mortals will be happy.

I'm dropping off your mini-poster sometime this weekend, I wish we got more to do an art project, or one of the alternative posters!
Do something creative..Go YOU!

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

Woo! I look forward to seeing you even briefly for the poster exchange.

Of course now it's thundering god damn it and I was going to go grocery shopping after [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick woke for breakfast.

Forgive me if you've already said this, but do you use a particular pattern for your aprons? Any tips for making them awesome?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-06-06 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the one I used (http://butterick.mccall.com/b4945-products-5295.php?page_id=871) for Apron 1 (Apron 2 has been discontinued) and I love it. Obviously, I've made it twice. I used View C. It is a little fiddly and honestly I don't care for the construction (IMO it's way more complicated than it needs to be) but I do like the angles and contrasts. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner, though. The one I'm cutting right now (http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5643-products-8934.php?page_id=906) (view B) looks to be simpler construction and is lined, so it gives extra protection--a definite plus.

Things I recommend in an apron: Use heavier weight cotton than quilting cotton for unlined aprons. Cotton upholstery fabric works great for single-layer aprons (that's what I've used both times for Apron 1). Make sure the apron adequately covers your chest. Deep v-neck aprons look fun and sassy but don't protect your blouse enough. An apron without pockets is not worth anybody's time.

Hope that helps!

They passed stop-gap measure preventing furlough while they're hashing it out last night.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-06-06 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured they would come up with some half-ass bullshit that wouldn't solve any problems but at least this keeps people from going without rent or groceries.

ETA: Do you have a link or news source? My google search didn't bring up anything and the KU site hasn't updated, either.

Rep. Stephanie Clayton posted it this morning. My understanding is that the measure declares all state employees "essential" for the time being. I think it's waiting on the governor to sign it this morning.

Left my fic marathon to Sun night and now I'm dragging ass. Worth it though.

I was too tired after all my other Sunday chores to finish Apron 2, so I started a re-read of resonant's Transfigurations and I stayed up until 10:30. Not the best idea but wow that story is so good.

This is a HP fic? Hmmmm, curious now.

I'm slowly rereading my fav tasertricks fic, it is so well written that it's a joy every time.

It's the one and only HP fic I've ever read and it's so perfect. SO PERFECT.

I mean I don't want to talk it up TOO much, but I stayed awake until 2am reading it the first time. And I'm a go-to-bed-at-9 person.

Considering I stayef up until 2 last night on a reread, I will remember this warning.
