Wednesday is the new Friday

Thanks to those who offered insight and experiences on yesterday's question about my menstrual stuff. I'm so glad to be at a point in my life where I am comfortable talking about a normal body function without being embarrassed. Sincere appreciation to those friends who are in the same place with me. I think I'm going to mention these issues to my doctor next time I see her, but I'm not going to worry about it too much for now.

This Breaking Muscle article about how we perceive our daily activity affects our health is fascinating.

If you're a Kindle owner and want a new cookbook (and aren't vegetarian), consider picking up Melissa Joulwan's two amazing contributions to the Paleo Eating community. They're on sale for $1.99 each on Kindle right now.

There is talk of a few crafting panels at Con*Strict, including origami and a make-a-purse-from-a-book. Y'all, I might have found my people.

Today's my last day at the office this week.

I missed that post but, whatever issues you're having with your period, I really hope you can get some insight/resolution next time you see the doctor!

Make a purse from a book? I am intrigued!!

Woo hoo! I hope you get to enjoy your long weekend!

I made it yesterday afternoon--you might have to just scroll back a bit. Basically I was just asking people's opinions if my bleeding seemed excessive. Consensus is yes. =D

The book purse is probably something like this, which I've always found charming:

I found it as I was going through my friends feed and I did weigh in. It seems like our cycles are fairly similar, so I took note of the fibroid issue and will try to remember to ask my doctor about it.

They are so charming! I love the idea! :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-01 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's really not my own fashion thing. I would never carry one, myself. But it'll be a great gift!

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2015-07-01 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I could carry enough of my stuff in one, but it's cute!!

Several of the Lolita brands (and knockoffs thereof) have released book purses!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can see how this would match their aesthetic really well!

I have a couple of old dictionaries that belonged to my grandfather that I would gladly contribute to this cause if you would like them.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's super generous of you! Yes, I'd be happy to take them, thanks! And I could use the pages inside for collage stuff, so NO WASTE! Let me know when's a good time for me to get them?

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2015-07-03 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
They were actually in my donation pile. Which kinda broke my heart, because I love them, but I know exactly one person who uses paper dictionaries still, and that was because her job was proof-reading technical journals. Honestly, I am absolutely thrilled to be able to give them to you and for them to have a new purpose. I work all this weekend, but I'm free Monday, Tuesday, and Friday evening next week.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-03 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall make you something with them, then! We should get together to talk about what you might like. I could get them Monday after work. I'm off at 4. Let me know when you'll be available.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2015-07-03 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm working Monday, but I don't go in til midnight, so anytime after you get off work is good for me. :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-04 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. I'll be in touch!

oh, hot damn! for a functional Friday!

Also, for finding your people.

Well, I'm trying to keep my enthusiasm somewhat checked for getting along with the Con*Strict folks, but HOPES ARE HIGH.

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I like high hopes!

Yay for last day of work!

I am always up for talking about bodily functions. Years and years of issues/tests/procedures/surgeries have left me totally uninhibited about this stuff.

One of my good friends made me a Stephen King book purse and I LOVE IT. I have never carried it anywhere because I don't want to ruin it. I consider it more of a display piece.

Your con crafty comments make me wonder if there is something we can do at 221b Con next year, assuming we all still go.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-01 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so many people at that con knit or crochet, and I ... don't. I tried knitting and I was actually really good and fast at it, but I didn't enjoy it at all. Problem is, most crafts aren't very portable.

[identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Problem is, most crafts aren't very portable.

Truth. And of the ones that are, most are based in yarn or thread--knitting, crocheting, tatting, embroidery, spinning on a drop spindle...when I was doing SCA stuff I saw people with card-weaving but that's not something you'd put in a suitcase to head to a con via airplane.

Origami is pretty portable though, at least until the object is folded up!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
I do like embroidery, especially the more outsider-art looking stuff. I used to embroider when I was a kid, but dropped it in high school when drama and journalism took over. It's definitely on my long list of Things To Do Someday.

[identity profile] siro-gravity.livejournal.com 2015-07-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
love the placebo article!!

crafting panels = FUN!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Right??? So you're probably getting a lot more exercise than you think!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yay, I just shared the cookbooks with friends I know couldn't afford to buy her hard copies. Thank you.

I'm going to think of every extra step at work, or standing up motion as exercise!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Happy news all around!

[identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I can't wait to see your write-up of con-strict. I've got my eye on whether I should add it to my list of yearly cons.

Regarding daily activity: now I wonder how much of my weight loss when I became a mail carrier was due to believing that I would lose weight. But then, an acquaintance wore a fitbit thing and found out he burned something like 3,000 calories a day. And most--not all, but most--mail carriers on walking routes are thinner than carriers on driving routes.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-07-02 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm sure being a mail carrier is actual real hard work. Oof. If only I didn't have such crap issues with health and weather...I'd probably really like it. =D
