First day down

Saturday's over, I'm only faintly pink and my feet don't hurt nearly as awfully as I thought they might. I'm dead tired though and I can tell you all now that there's no way I'm going to be able to make it out dancing next weekend. No. Just...no. Sorry. You all have fun without me.

Had a wonderful time today, although closing gate was a bit tedious. It's not good when you see patrons checking their watches and looking around for a good escape hole because they got caught up front between the royalty and the dancing gypsies.

Things I learned today:
1. I'm not nearly as quick witted as I thought. The other women have some very sharp fast tongues. I'm in awe.
2. My bodice is too damn big and needs adjusting.
3. I'm surprisingly good at bacci ball (or however you spell it).
4. It's easy to keep the Spanish accent as long as I don't ever drop it. I think I sound...not bad.
5. One can impress a whole lane full of people by sticking one's entire hand in one's mouth.

Glad you're having an okay time... Brandon mentioned going next (next) weekend and I'm wondering if you know any place I can rent or borrow or even buy a piratey wench-dress or at least skirt... I have a drawstring-neck top that would be passable. You seem like a go-to person for costume advice! :) Loved the pics of the new blue!

Thanks! Let me dig through my closet and see what I have left. A lot of my costume stuff I have out on loan for bellydance weekend. But if I have something I think might work, I'll bring it Tuesday.

If you can't find thru L
I have stuff I'm loaning out Monday but should be available for next weekend. I have 2-3 outfits in various "smaller then me" sizes.

Thanks!!! Any help you could give would be great... I'm sort of looking for some sort of full skirt with a rope belt maybe in brown or blue or some other peasanty color but I really have no idea what I mean. Eventually I should really buy a lace-up sort of top and one of these skirts for these occasions... it's just too fun and I should really own one. :)

G'day -- you must work in the same department as CR and I do, but I can't figure out who you are!

I'm one of the basement dwellers from the labyrinth below. :) Just Julie.

Ah, yes; I dwelt there my first year in the Department; only when Jim Gunn needed us closer did we move up to 3rd. Beware the giant cockroaches.

It's fun to discover how much smaller the world becomes via LJ!

I want a picture of #5.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
A photo isn't actually quite as impressive. It's one of those things that's really better in action.

[identity profile] fantomas71.livejournal.com 2004-09-04 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Your whole freaking hand?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Whole freaking hand. Granted, I have small hands, but yeah. Whole hand. Oh, and I can do it with my fist closed (freak of nature jaw flexibility) and my hand open (mostly inoperable gag reflex). Ta da.

[identity profile] fantomas71.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Good Lord. I am impressed.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, good morning! I'll show off my party trick for you today if you'd like. See you at Chess Match if not before.

[identity profile] fantomas71.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
And good morning to you. I shall be out early today, in fact very early, and will be honored to recieve this spectacle at whatever opportunity presents itself.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Bocci. The English term for the game is Bowls. It was actually very popular in Henrey VIII's time. We just bastardized the name to call it "Balls" (more prostitutional.

Oh and we must have you perform your "trick" for [livejournal.com profile] fantomas71...he, jaded boy that his is, is absolutely sure to appreciated it.

D.

I'm happy to perform my party trick anytime. Pity we don't have any billiard balls out on site. I can fit a billiard ball in my mouth as well. Of course, the trick for most folks isn't always getting it in, but getting it out, too. ;> Heh heh.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Whooooooooop! I suspect you won't get tired of the shock and awe this one elicits. Though you might want to be careful if you catch a cold. I can see how that might end: "I hunno hoh it got tuck, oh-hi-ha. It wah a hah-tay tick."

I'm more then pink but not solid red - we left after mr romance but I'll be back out monday - might try a straw hat - must put ribbons or such on it.

Was great to see you - Pooch had fun shocking people with his lip print

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-09-06 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hope your burn fades quickly. I despise being sunburned.

And our job is to be shocking! Heee hee! Glad I could contribute to his good day.

Go, YOU!

[identity profile] chronovore.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
With regard to #1: Don't regret that you've been outquicked by someone else. Past a certain point, the ability to banter can only be honed through endless engagement, and such competition in what can generally be seen as a mean sport can lead to awkward social situations. Better to be "quite quick" and prepared than always cocked and suffering a hair trigger.

With regard to #5: I used to be able to fit my whole fist in my mouth, but my maw doesn't dislocate as well as it used to, and my hands might be bigger. However, since yours is based on a missing gag reflex, I assume you're talking about some serious depth. The mind boggles.

Good point. Hair trigger = bad.

Yes, my hands are very small. I can do The Trick with either a closed fist or open hand. The flexible jaw/mostly inoperable gag reflex double whammy provides quite the party trick. I can also fit a billiard ball in my mouth. And then remove it, which seems to be the biggest problem for most folks. =)

Hon, you're plenty witty. And if they seem insufficiently staggered by your intellect, go to #5.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-09-05 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, and how many of the others possess your combination of both? Damned few in the world, methinks! >g<

Good plan. Nothing like a good helping of envy to shut down a smart ass. =D

disjointed thoughts

I completely understand about the post faire low batteries.
I have a specific memory that after a long Faire Day, i got down on the floor to play with a friend's cat.

I was found later passed out on the floor, looking quite happy, being used as cat furniture.
-
Closing gate was lovely once this weekend, but I can't see going time after time. (so says the Playtron)
Perhaps I should make up some cards that are a play off of that Monopoly card:
"Get out of Closing Gate Free!"
-
Part of the sharp fast tongues, is practice practice practice.
You can sorta preload your head, by reading funny/sharp/sarcastic writings.
Wicked can lead to sharp and back again, don'cha know.
-
Your accent is fine! You'll know you have it down the first time you are fresh back to your day job, and you answer the phone with the accent.
-
From head to toe, you are quite the stunning lovely.
I had almost forgotten the hand trick, now I'm in flashback city again. 8^)

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2004-09-07 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
heh, I missed that trick.
And Bocci balls is fun, fun fun. I've been debating on buying a set for two years, now would be good that there's a large backyard of my sweeites to use.
