My desk/work area. I stood on my little couch-chair thing to get this--you can see part of it in the second photo with the pillows piled on the end. I'm not actually 9 feet tall.


What people see when they walk in my office.


A closer view of my computer area and the magnificent Chinese lantern that hangs in my corner. A friend's mother dug it out of a dumpster for me when a Chinese restaurant in Wichita, KS, closed.

The little blue paper taped to the bottom of my monitor comfortingly reassures me: When work feels overwhelming, remember that you're going to die."

The postcards on the walls are almost all from my internet friends. The-Toast used to have regular post exchanges and some of us on cm.net have kept up sending each other stuff through the mail. I highly recommend the practice.

I might be deep into Guardian, but I am still loving Venom. Seriously, it's my happy place these days. Which is pretty hilarious.

The standy-up things are my vertical files, which I love. My department inherited this office furniture from the department inhabiting these offices before us and I'd never seen such a thing but I was immediately, like, MINE! The slot closest to me is Stuff That Needs Immediate Attention, the next one is Things That Need Other People's Input, the third one is Stuff I Am Dealing With Regularly At The Moment, etc. THEY'RE SO HANDY.

Oh, super useful! Depending on how I end up doing my materials and charts for newjob, I might look into those.

There are cheap, non-integrated versions of the idea like this if you don't mind them sitting on top of your desk (I make use of the space underneath mine for stapler, tape, tissues, etc.).

That is a lot of postcards! I did my first ever postcard exchange last year ( it wasn‘t organized by me, I just took part) and everyone agreed it was a big success. We‘ll do it again this year. :-)

Fun! I like postcards because if I don't have energy to make art, I often can at least jot down a quick greeting on a postcard.
