Wednesday Update

Had more blood work done today--the last tests I'll be able to run under my current insurance. It's been a month since I started the new compounded T3/T4 thyroid medication and the sex hormone lotion stuff. Definitely starting to feel my libido coming back online which is nice! I...kinda hope the thyroid meds aren't making a difference, though, because they're $40/mo as opposed to the plain old Levothyroxine which is $2.50/mo.

I'm kinda brain dead today. Haven't been sleeping all that great. Five 4am mornings in a row, but at least I'm not crushingly fatigued like I would've been in the past. I'm not useless, just...disinclined to do much of anything. I took the whole day off work so at least I have the option to do exactly that!

ETA: I got another grad student to watch Guardian (this is the second!) and she just emailed me with the subject line SHEN WEI IS THE BLACK-CLOAKED ENVOY??? I'm really enjoying getting people into this show.

This is actually really interesting to me - I thought it was so obvious from the start that it never even occurred to me to wonder if it was meant as a reveal. Evidently so!

Same! I recognized those lips and eyes IMMEDIATELY. I've seen a few posts by people who didn't, though. I think it's a testament to Zhu Yi Long's face acting.

He is an amazing actor - I mean, he makes Ye Zun in the mask look different from Shen Wei in the mask. That is incredible work.

For me, it was the way the narrative introduces Shen Wei. He is *very* clearly not an ordinary professor, and I felt it was made clear he is Dixingian from the first moment. And of course, after his dramatic reaction to seeing Zhao Yunlan, the Black-Cloaked Envoy turns up (verrrry dramatically and imposingly!) to hang conspicuously around Zhao Yunlan, and Professor Shen just happens to fall off a roof and turn up again immediately after the BCE has gone... that's classic. It honestly didn't occur to me that there was meant to be a mystery here. ;-)

I got it right away, but also I'm familiar with that as a trope in the media I consume. I can imagine it's a fun reveal!

Oh, I saw the posts about it being up on Viki, so I just checked out Ep 40 to see if they kept the redemption scene (they did) and I immediately got emotional and teared up at my desk. WTF self!?!?!?!

I feel you re med costs. I am on two antidepressants and still struggling so we tried raising the dose of first one and then the other. One's an old drug and I'm on the generic and it's free. The other is a new fancy drug that costs $40 a pill (with insurance, it goes down to $75 a month). Guess which drug I responded to?
