Weilan playlist for 5/20 Guardian Exchange 2019

Since I didn't have the time/energy resources to sign up for the first 5/20 Guardian exchange (tragedy!) , I made a Weilan YouTube playlist and am spamming the fuck out of my poor followers on Tumblr today.

Here's a fancy song-by-song list with Special Lyric Pull-Quotes (formatting thanks to no_detective ) if you want to go through it track by track. Apologies for not putting this beneath a cut. I kept trying to do so but the cut fucks up the formatting. Stupid <divs>.

oh, and also? I'm full of so much ridiculous squee that you liked my playlist enough to ALL CAPS your comment because I'm not kidding your Augustine vid is my Absolute Favorite. I don't know how many times I watched it the first week I saw it (so, so many times) and I still watch it at least a few times a week. It's. So. Good.

Even If It Hurts

What's your POV thought on this? I found that intriguing and interesting from both directions, so I'm curious!

OMG the emo arc after that is deadly! (;___;) But so good.

... also, the Yazoo song (apart from my ...??? moment when I kept going, 'don't know the band, but I know that voice, I KNOW that voice...') is now my personal unofficial sequel to Running Up That Hill.

And am I getting this right that the final two are already hinting at the Guardian sequel / fixit? ^_^

I loved this list!!! This is a great progression and I definitely want to get these on my phone now. Thanks for sharing as everyone is drumming their fingers for the collection to go live! This is great!

Fuck Yeah One Direction! I was never in the fandom, but I like more of their albums than I don't. In a different life, I would've formed an all-ladies 1D cover band. So many songs that are just extra angsty (bc that's my jam) when delivered from a queer perspective.

Marianas Trench has some occasionally problematic lyrics, but dogs I love them and the album that "Good To You" is on is probably my favorite (although I haven't heard the one that came out in March).

Also YES PLEASE I am thrilled to talk about why certain songs seemed appropriate.

"Even If It Hurts" works for both of them, I agree. They're both so willing, even eager, to sacrifice for the other--to the point where it's not necessarily always the best choice, you idiots. Also the emphasis on no regrets for either. But I feel like the beginning lines about not losing hope and not having to fight alone ("don't let it take the skin from your bones") as well as the bridge are more specifically pointed at Shen Wei:
How long will it take
For you to lean on me

So you can finally breathe
Slow, slow
Because seriously dude needs A Rest.

I'm so glad the Yazoo song spoke to someone else! The Kesha song is a much more hopeful/fix-it but "Dark On Me" is more drama-canon accurate and kinda...dark. I felt a little bad for putting it last, but it has that long outro bit (which I think actually works with the last wormhole/in space scene).

I was listening to some music last night and was reminded that Placebo did a cover of Running Up That Hill that takes on new layers with Brian Molko's creepy delivery and arrangement. I was wondering if that was the version you were thinking of? I'm definitely putting it in my next (even angstier, I fear) playlist.

No, I actually meant the Kate Bush version. ^_^ I got it off a playlist by no_detective and it went !!!!! in my head. (I think Kate Bush and Shen Wei go quite well together! Ethereal and with a flair for drama...)

But I like the Placebo version too, and it's not like Placebo are strangers to being emo drama llamas; maybe I'll start alternating. *g*
