Wednesday Update

Heading home today. Thank dogs. Still getting along with the parents, always good.

Daddy and I saw the new Apollo 11 documentary at the IMAX theater yesterday. So much unreleased footage! There was no narration, just audio from the recordings. I liked it very much. Wish I'd brought earplugs, though. Was glad it was only an hour long because I had to cover my ears nearly the entire time.

Their 50th wedding anniversary is in September and they're getting some photos taken today. Mommy told me Sunday (after I arrived) that she wanted me to be in some of the photos with them which is...fine? But I told her if she ever wants to do something like that in the future to let me know ahead of time because it would've been really nice to, you know, bring clothes besides tee shirt dresses? and also maybe, you know, stuff to do my hair with? I haven't washed my hair in well over a week and that's normal for me and it doesn't look awful, but it is pretty flat and isn't going to photograph well, and I just...why wouldn't you mention that you want your daughter to accompany you for a professional photoshoot before she got on the plane to see you?

This is, however, very on-brand for my mother and they're her anniversary photos so whatever.

I slept worse here than I do at home which is annoying and exhausting. I haven't had more than three hours of consecutive sleep or more than six hours of cumulative sleep a night since before I left for Vegas on the 12th.

Glad to hear things are going well with the parents, but boo on the sleeping!

LOL, yes, you'd *think* some photography heads up would make sense...

I would kill a man to be able to go a week without washing my hair. Maybe the photog has some magic that will make it less flat; either way, your face will be gorgeous. Safe travels home, many naps.

My hair mostly agrees with not washing much... but my scalp disagrees.

Thanks for the report on the doc, J is a MASSIVE Apollo mission fan so I'll make sure he sees this. He often listens to the mission audio for fun.

I'm glad the trip went well, and your mom pulling that with the photos sounds very much like my mom. I get no info about anything, except when I purposely dig for details.

I'm sleeping but waking up exhausted. Hopefully getting home and back into a routine will help.

I'm glad you survived the trip and are on your way home! I am sorry that you didn't get the rest there that you thought you might. Here's to going home and getting some damn sleep! Hopefully you have nothing pressing planned for a while so that you can truly unwind.

Oh dear! One would think that should be obvious, yes.

I hope you can get some decent sleep back at home!

Ooof, yes, henna is a time-consuming endeavor. (I used it for several years before conceding to myself that it would just never get my hair as red as I wanted. [I say, with my now-purple hair.])

Hooray for touched-up color!

ANOTHER thing I would've done in advance of PHOTOS if SOMEONE had just TOLD me. =/

Indeed. >.<

[personal profile] scruloose and I treated my hair like a chemistry project for a while and messed around with different henna mixes, but the results didn't vary all that much, alas. I think for the last few years of henna I had a default recipe.

I spent SO MANY YEARS not dyeing my (naturally medium brown) hair anything but red because I'd had the fear of bleach seared into me, so I didn't try anything else until I first heard about oil-slick dyes (which don't need bleaching first)...maybe two years ago? Could be three? The first time I got my stylist to do streaks in a few colors, and after that we went mostly-purple, although I still have a couple of blue streaks. And I quickly gave up on not bleaching it at all, after all that.

(Once the "am I gonna get/get interviewed for the job opening???" situation is settled, I'm getting my stylist to bleach it more and go for a brighter purple, more like the shade in this icon. We agreed that keeping it fairly low-key-for-purple until then is probably the way to go. The actual manager at the office doesn't care about my hair color or my tattoos, but I don't know who else might be part of the interview process.)

I do tend to have visible roots for longer than I'd like, 'cause I usually go a few weeks longer than would be ideal between appointments. My wallet was certainly happier with red dye from a box. ^^;

I tend to shy away from having photos taken (which is unfortunate, since then I'm sad about not having photos), but if I manage to get any with the purple, I'll try to remember to share! But my public-Twitter userpic is the first time I did fun colors, with the streaks in my natural color.

When I hennaed, I tried a couple of different routes (the bricks from Lush, a couple of boxes from the "health" stores--although then I found out what was mixed in the latter and stopped), but ultimately settled on the $1-or-$2 boxes of plain body-art henna from the Indian grocery, which I then mixed with whatever my recipe was. Happy, happy wallet.
