Sunday Six
He was gingerly testing the porch swing when he realized he’d forgotten to ask Lao Li to stop somewhere so he could buy a lighter. Cursing, he palmed a cigarette and snuck back to the kitchen. Lao Li had gone and everyone else was occupied with unpacking. He turned one of the stovetop knobs and winced at the audible clicking. Blue fire immediately circled the burner, though, and he leaned down to light up before anyone noticed.
“Zhao Yunlan!” Zhu Hong, of course, turned the corner into the kitchen just as he pulled away from the flame. Holding his breath and cupping his hand around the cherry, he shouldered her out of the way and darted back through the house to the front porch, Zhu Hong chastising him all the way. Once back outside, he exhaled on a laugh as she repeatedly slapped him on the back. “Shame on you!” she continued. “We’ve been here thirty minutes and you’ve already broken a house rule!”
“Only this one time, I swear. I just need to buy a lighter, sheesh. Stop hitting me! Come on, sit out here with me a while.” He walked over to the porch swing. “We can share my soda?”
Zhu Hong took the unopened can from his hand. “You mean I can have your soda,” she said, but she sat down on the swing on the side closer to the house so Zhao Yunlan could blow his poison smoke out into the yard.
Y'all, I really love them in this a lot. Feels kind of silly to be so attached to a relationship that I'm creating, but...
Let's hear it for team Zhu Hong Deserves Better!
Also I'm going to really really really try to get something written today. Something. ANYTHING.

No! That's how I know if I've got it right. If I don't believe it, then why should anybody else. And this one is very believable. :D
