In which our intrepid heroine learns she is not as flexible as she thought

At least my ribs do not care to be squished into certain formations for 10 hours at a stretch, thank you very much. I got straightlaced on Saturday and forgot that bodice #2's grommets are set in much farther than bodice #1's. Which means when I straightlace #2, there's a good three inches of overlap. Which means the tits look fantastic, but now I have this painful contusion floating at the bottom part of my sternum. Ow. It's only a bit puffy at the moment, but it hasn't (yet) started to discolor.

This was a glorious weekend out at faire. The weather was perfect and Saturday's crowd was a lot of fun. The Sunday crowd seemed a bit dead, and that tends to pull my energy level down a bit, but it was still a good day. I had something really funny happen on Saturday, but of course my ferret brain has forgotten. I even thought to myself "Gotta put that one in LJ on Monday." Stupid ferret brain. Got to meet some of the Minneapolis crew and impressed the hell out of the king, prince, and a guardsman with The Hand Trick. When the prince could speak again, he kissed my (non-slobbery) hand and said "You're a goddess." Wiggle! One of my great joys in life is making people happy, but it's also really fun to shock 'em once in a while.

I got to see three of my grad students out on Sunday--the Medievalist crew. I hope they had a good time. I worry that the academics will come out to faire expecting some sort of realistic representation of the renaissance when what they're going to get is a fantasy interpretation squirted out of a can of Cheez Whiz. I'm fairly confident that the graduate students still maintain a sense of humor, though. So they should be fine.

This morning was a meeting with the Graduate School. Wasn't as bad as it could have been, but that's not saying a lot. They're implementing more stupid application procedures that make absolutely no sense at all. I really have to wonder at the method they use to reach decisions. I swear it involves a dartboard.

And in fifteen minutes I leave for a lunch date. I would be more enthusiastic about it if I'd actually remembered to bring money to buy myself something to eat. Rats. Since the co-luncher also works on campus, we agreed to stay up here and not lose our parking places. I guess the lack of cash will ensure that I won't be tempted to head down to the new Chik-fil-A in the basement. I think I might have enough change for a soda...

ARGH for being so far away, I could help you with the cash situation.

No prob. One of the other secretaries spotted me $5. Thanks!

BWAHAHA =D I love that turn of phrase. =) The dog thinks I am a loony for chortling so much.

(snickers) That's the best description for Renfest lunacy I've ever heard.

Thank yew! =)

Glad to bring a smile to yer face!

I haven't eaten at a Chik-fil-A in ages! And now there is one in Wescoe!? I'm going to have to visit it on one of my days off.

and impressed the hell out of the king, prince, and a guardsman with The Hand Trick

My sister also has this talent. There needs to be a double showing when she is in town in November.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! Chik-fil-A in Wescoe, baby. I was good, though, and despite the presence of $5 in my pocket, I got...a salad.

There needs to be a double showing when she is in town in November
Aw yeah! A sister in arms, so to speak!

Heh. Heh, heh.

*Ding*Ding*Ding*! Thank you!!! God, how sad is that? Sexiest guard out there carts me off for a romp behind the gate and couldn't remember. I really need to lay off the...oh wait. I'm not on heavy medication. I have no excuse.

[identity profile] thedarkbear.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well I've never considered myself the "Sexiest guard out there", but I think I can handle the title. It's much better than Psycho Captain De Silva.

You can start considering it as of now. Yeah.

Ditto on the description from the Madam as well, my dear...

Well I thank you both. I'm still having issues with the whole being sexy issue. I guess I still have a bit of the ugly duckling syndrome, especially when I look at old pictures of me.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't speak for the old pictures, but uh, have you looked at any recent ones? Hawt.

[identity profile] thedarkbear.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I think part of it is that I'm very particular about pictures of me. If there is any resemblance of what I consider the old, dorky me, I tend to freak out. I immediately think everyone recognizes the short haired, freak with glasses, who was definately President of the Society for Supreme Geekdom.

ack! application procedures that aren't up on the website yet? is this in effect for this year? ack!

actually, i'm not that worried. i've got an inside sourse, you know.

;)

Tess

oh, and also, can i be honest about something? while the hand trick is impressive in it's 'wow, i didn't know a person could DO that' way, i don't find it sexy. is this because i don't have a penis? i mean, it's entertaining, but sexy?

As a side note, may I say your 'voice' comes through your typing loud and clear? I mean, I can HEAR you saying the things I am reading. Doesn't happen to me all that often, but it's happened with every one of your posts that I have read.

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It means you speak out loud very much what you speak in type. It's rather unusual.

"(good gods, I almost typed "grammercy"---I think I need to go lie down.)"
I hear ya. Saying 'si' at work is mortifying. :O

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
No application changes that you need to worry about. Basically the GS just wants transcripts to go to them. Both copies. And the departments don't get an original copy anymore. Excuse me, what? Senseless.

I don't think the hand trick is sexy per se (I mean, I look like a fucking snake eating a goat). It's more the "Jeebus Christ lookit that" factor. Fantasy fodder for men, yes. Inherently sexy? Not IMO.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
i'm glad i'm not missing some intrinsically sexy aspect of the hand trick, then. :) it is impressive.

the Grad School here fucked us over this year, so i'm used to thinking Grad departments SUCK.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2004-10-04 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I believe they are mezmerized by the brain rush of all the other possible things she can get into her mouth more than by the fact that her hand is in her mouth.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-10-07 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Like goats and stuff. I think the "and stuff" part is the relevant section.

Still, I think the "tie a cherry stem into a knot using only my tongue" thing is a sexier trick per se.

Chris

I can do that, too...

What can I say? I'm multi-talented. ...and flexible. *evil grin*
