Wednesday Update

The last crock pot thing (a duck) is cooking right now and I'm making the last non-crock pot thing (two pork chops) for dinner tonight. Everything else is done. And the only things I lost/gave up were the things I mentioned on Monday.

It's been a week since I sat down to write for more than thirty minutes at a time. Meanwhile, I thought of a plot point for Ghost Story that needs to be set up early on in the story. I had a feeling this sort of thing would happen and am very glad I stuck by not posting as I write (for numerous reasons, but I knew this sort of thing was especially likely to happen--the freezer emergency was more of a surprise). It's sort of a thing-happening-in-the-background, but it'll help flesh out Shen Wei's character and add to his relationship with Zhao Yunlan. I'm kind of excited about it and feel silly I didn't think of it earlier.

This is the one big reason I don't post as I go, either! (Also because this way I can fix any pacing issues before anyone else sees it.) (And for the second longfic I wrote ever, it basically changed themes midway so I had to hurriedly change the place of all the flashbacks completely to support it... Talk about impossible to do if one posts as one goes!) Don't feel silly for not thinking of it earlier – sometimes one needs to digest an idea for a while in one's subconscious before it's ready.

Pantsers baffle me. Good for them, but wow that's so beyond my ken I can't even.

I think it's a different axis to plotter/pantser, since I hear about a lot of people who write from an outline but post as they go. So in effect they choose to write linearly and not do any "retrospective" edits to bits of outline they've already written and posted, even if they have a strict outline.

I can't recommend putting it in a crock pot, that's for sure. It came out fine but Did Not Smell Tasty At All and crispy skin doesn't happen in a slow cooker. Ah well, I didn't have the spoons to actually do a simple roast like I usually do. At least the meat was nice and tender!
