Thursday

Spent a lot of time out and about today. Drove to Kansas City for a Costco run. Got to justify my presence at the Olds and Invalids hour to the door person--which is fine, I don't mind saying "I have an autoimmune disease" when they point out I obviously don't qualify for the 65-and-older--and spent a few minutes chatting with the woman about her daughter's autoimmune disease. Daughter is nervous about the vaccine for the same reasons I was, so I passed along all the info I got from people here and on Twitter about how there's little to worry about and reassured Mom that I would be getting the vaccine as soon as I possibly could and felt very confident about it, now.

Had to drive back to Lawrence on very little gas since the pump wouldn't take my card. The plastic has started to peel up from the front and I guess it interferes with the processing. It worked fine in the store (thank goodness), but when I got home I immediately called my bank to order a new one. While I was on the phone with the customer service rep, his computer froze up and then shut down. Poor guy. He apologized profusely, but I just laughed and reassured him this was very on brand for me. We spent some time chatting about Life In The Time Of COVID as single people with no kids.

Dropped off some things I'd picked up for [personal profile] roseconnelly and got to talk a bit with An Actual Friend In Person. So I'm feeling pretty pleased with the amount of social engagement today. BTW, bb, somehow you got dropped from my circles on here???? Jesus. I'm so sorry I seem to have missed out on a lot of stuff from you. I'll email you today or tomorrow, despite having just chatted. *facepalm*

Something I didn't think to mention in the backstory of my TWSS post was I suspect my horrible periods were due to the fact that my tubal ligation (done in 2005) somehow failed. The surgeon who removed my uterus saw a clamp on only one of my Fallopian tubes. She said she looked all over for the other one, but never found it. 😬 So it's highly likely that all those horrible periods were, you know, miscarriages (because I wasn't healthy enough to actually get pregnant). 👍

And now another friend just texted to say she's picking up the stuff I picked up for her at Costco so I'm gonna be quite heavily socialized indeed.

This week's dump on cm.net.

Ugh, periods. I could rant about uteruses all day.

I was just rummaging my files for an article I saw once that explained just why we menstruate, because I don't remember the explanation well enough to try to describe it. I will find it yet!

The article wasn't so much about the process (yay health class -- sorry if I sounded like I din't think you know that) as the intertwined social and biological reasons (since we're a social species) why our bodies go through stuch a stupid wasteful painful debilitating process.

I freaking hate periods. I often joke that my uterus is my nemesis. I so totally hear you.

SO UNFAIR.

I finally found the article: http://www.themarysue.com/why-do-women-menstruate/

The part I wasn't remembering was the particularly draining pregnancies common to the few animals who do menstruate. Still, sheesh, twelve times a year? WTFF.

(having found the articles I am now saving them)

Miscarriages? FUCK.

Glad you got to socialize! The longer I'm in lockdown, the more I don't feel like ever leaving again. (Except, you know, ISRAEL??)
