Especially for fantomas71, an LJ post written by someone who provided medical care for Terry Schaivo. Chilling, really. For her and all of us.

My parents raised me with the belief that life is not sacred above all things. Life is sacred as long as there is hope and potential for joy. Once those are no longer possible (and I'm serious about that being extreme--not some gothic angsty "oh life's not worth living" crap), it's completely acceptable to choose no more life. Permanent debillitating pain? Inevitable loss of brain function? Those are examples of The Line. My parents and I have living wills and DNRs. I hope they'll actually do us good when the time comes.

Um, excuse me? Tell that to the families of the highest record of state executions in the country, and the families of the killed service people recently. Choose life? I think not.
