April showers
Last night I saw my first lightning bug of 2005. Nice. And sometime during the wee hours we finally got some of that rain they've been yapping about since Sunday. Of course, probably due to increased mold in the air, I had a horrific allergy attack this morning and had to go home to take out my contact lenses. Horrible, nasty burning eyes and running nose. Awful. I had vampire red eyes. Not attractive.
From Daniel Lippold (who did the atwoodkansas.com page--now no longer active), I got this email today:
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my Letter to Atwood. I appreciate your comments.
I have received over 5000 emails (and I'm responding to EVERY one!!!) and as of now only a handful have been negative. It has made me realize 1 person can make people sit up and pay attention and that putting a human face on an issue like Gay Marriage is a very effective way to get voters to actually take the time and think about the issue, rather than just taking the absurd rhetoric blanketing all of the media from the Religious Right. Now that we have the attention, it is up to all of us to keep it. I've decided to create a website to help others do similar things to get those that they know and love to think for themselves and make a decision based on the fact that they will now know someone who their vote will personally affect.
The new website is live right now, however it's just an animation at this point, that's where you come in. I'm seeking idea's for the
site. What do you think would be effective? My strategy is leave the actual political battles to groups like HRC (They're amazing, if you're not supporting them, I urge you to get involved with them!). I want to get personal. Based on the responses I have received, had the Citizens of Atwood and Kansas in General voted like they have been responding, the Amendment would have gone down in flames (no pun intended!). So let's shift our focus and make it personal. No more will we answer the rhetoric of the Religious Right, with rhetoric of our own, we're going to let them know exactly who they are going to be affecting.
The new site is at: http://www.YouKnowOne.com. Please pass it around and encourage those you know to send their ideas. The Advocate is running an article about my letter to Atwood and an interview with me in the May 24th issue, in which I discuss my reasons for the letter, the response I've received, my hopes for the future, what's next, and the new site. So I'm hoping for people to share their stories w/me so I can put them up on the site.
All the best!
Daniel
The website is really good, IMO. Not much there yet, but quite moving.

1. How many locations (dwellings) have you lived in? Oh my goodness, um...five places growing up, then once I got to college, I think eight? So, thirteen.
2. If you could place your dream home in any location, where would it be? Dunno. I used to very much want a home on the Lake of the Ozarks, but things change.
3. In terms of the act of moving: are you a packer or a box mover? Packer. Definitely a packer.
4. What one item do you own that you absolutely hate to move? My credenza.
5. What's worse: the act of moving or a routine cleaning at the dentist? Oh, moving, definitely. I don't actually mind going to the dentist.
My god, it's 10:00! Where did the time go? I've been writing this on and off for an hour now.

That website is a good idea. I keep using the whole "do you know anyone who's gay?...Are you sure?" bit on people.
*sigh*

In other words, I would very much like to add you, with your permission.
