I want a new incense holder. I'd like to make one of those wine bottle-incense holders but I can't find instructions anywhere, not even a picture. There was a tutorial for one on Craftster, but it's been taken down. Dang. Anyone got a link? Or know how to do them yourself?

[livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive isn't up yet and [livejournal.com profile] fridayfiver was very similar to a past one, so I'm giving those a miss this week.

[livejournal.com profile] adammaker, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick, [livejournal.com profile] the_themiscyran, and I went to a dead frog exhibit over lunch today. Fascinating. ...also fascinating, I realized that, automatically, I alphabetized the above names. Does anyone else do that when listing LJers in your posts?

It's the last weekend of Faire and I have to admit I'm breathing a sigh of relief. I suppose I should be happy I'm breathing at all. I've got a buncha stuff to get done tonight: iron overskirt, tidy up The Yak, organize the basket, and make the surprise present for Lady Hawk in addition to mundane tasks like wash dishes and straighten up the apartment.

And I've got so many ideas for Crafty Things bouncing around in my head right now I think I'm gonna 'splode. I wanna start Crafty Night with similarly-inclined folks. I'll limit projects to things that can be done on the cheap and can be finished with minimal time commitment. I've got a couple ideas and a few people that I know are already interested. If you'd like to be included, please email me or comment here. Here are some of the projects that I know I'd like to do:
  • Luggage Tags
  • Flat marble magnets
  • Portable altars
  • Sushi tray
  • Beaded votives

Okay I so don't wanna be at work now. Argh!!!!
  • me too!

I would be interested in doing magnets or sushi trays; don't know if I would use the other objects, depending on how cool-looking the beaded votives are.

Do you not get Fall Break with the students?

Craftster is going to be down for a just a few minutes for maintenance.

That has been happening to me all day. Thank goodness the sun hasn't gone down for maintenance, or I might have had to work today.

Boo. Sorry to pique your interest with such lousy results.

    [identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2005-10-14 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
...and Gmail has been giving me those, "oops! try again in a few seconds" boxes all day. Feh.

I made those when I used to help out with the teen craft projects at the library where I worked in New Jersey. My favorite was a big blue stone where I pasted in a picture of Neil Armstrong's boot print from the moon. It's on our fridge now. Sadly, they don't usually manage to hold up more than themselves. But they look cool. Yay crafty stuff! I lurve it.

To make the incense holder/burner, all you need is a diamond-tipped drill bit to drill a hole (CAREFULLY) towards the bottom of the bottle. I made lamps from wine bottles, cider jugs, large glass-type things, and that's how I would drill the hole for the cord to go in and up through the bottles for the actual light fixture to attach.

    Make sense? :0)

    R.

Possibly dumb question: Why do I need to drill a hole? Is there not enough air to keep the incense lit if I just leave the top open? And what's the best way to attach the key ring (that's what you use to hold the incense down inside, right?)?

    Exhausted, hell yes.

If you don't find me tomorrow, don't fret. It's gonna be crowded. You can count on seeing us at 3:30 in the Royal Glade for the Human Combat Chess Match, though.

I have an incense burner that you hang from the wall, black that hangs on a chain — it isn't what I ended up wanting but I keep hold cause it needs a good home.

I would be intersted in crafty things, especially luggage tags

    [identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh damn!!! I wish I'd seen this before I came down...I wouldn't mind taking a look at the incense thingy if it's still looking for a good home.

Will keep you in the loop on crafty stuff.

I'll just give a ring to see if you're home. If not, I'll try another time.
