David Sedaris

Last night D and I went to see David Sedaris at the Lied Center. We were supposed to be accompanied by two friends, but alas, they had to cancel at the last minute. Would you believe we couldn't find *anyone* to take the tickets? For two hours, I called everyone in my rolodex (well, everyone that I thought might be interested) and came up empty. It was crazy. So we gave the tickets to two very thin (probably starving) undergraduates who were standing in line to buy tickets. The exchange was very funny and went like this:

Me: (tap tap on male's shoulder who is pulling out his wallet at the box office) Hey, do you need tickets? We have two extras.
Starving Male Undergrad: Yeah, but (looks nervous like I'm going to bite him) um, we kind of wanted to get the cheapest tickets we could.
Me: Well, *these* (I hold the tickets in front of me and snap them like someone testing a rubberband) are *free*.
SMU: *
Me: Would you like them?
SMU: (still * for a moment) Oh! Wow, that's really nice of you. Are you sure? Thanks!

Later, when they came to sit, they told us that the free tickets really made their night. So alas, Paul and Amy missed out, but they got to made someone's night.

Please add me to your rolodex - I had looked into going but had decided I couldn't afford the tickets.

Oh, man! That stinks. I'm sorry. I will certainly add you to my phone list. =)

Man alive I love his books. He came through Dallas a while back, but I was broke and my friend who asked me to go ended up passing as well because tickets were expensive. Glad someone benefited from those extra tickets.

Now, can you explain why Harry Connick tickets are $70 a piece (not including surcharges)...good god I will never get to go to another live show. Except Sesame Street live and Bear In The Big Blue House.

No, I cannot explain why Harry Connick tickets are $70 each. Ouch. Our tix for David Sedaris were only $25 each, and we were in the first balcony. Living in the armpit of America does have advantages. =)

NO KIDDING! David Sedaris tickets started at like $40 her in Big D...

Wow. $$$

OK, so next time he's in town maybe it'll coincide with a bellydance gig and you can make it a two-for-one! =)
