The weather is great, but...

Two not-so-nice bits of news on my birthday.

Local musician and nice guy Steve Haight killed in automobile accident. Obituary here.

Alito confirmed.

Steve and I shared a number of classes at KU in the early 90s. I also saw Julia Surrendered a couple of times (primarily for George Frazier, but also for Steve). Truly a great guy, a bright guy abd by the obit, a dedicated dad and husband. Steve, if you're somewhere you can ethereally read this, here's to sitting in the back and joking about Schweppe sleeping in CS 6whatever it was. I'll miss you.

Nah, I didn't take his classes, I just hung out with CS guys. I ::heart:: teh sexxay nerds. I worked at the KU computer center from 1989 to 1997 with only a two-year hiatus--that's how I knew Steve. I'm also friends with Keith Ashman, from The Switch, who double-billed with Julia Surrendered a lot.

Dang, we did run around in some of the same circles. I went to KU from 90-93 and am (ahem) one of tohse sexxay nerds. Practically lived in the computer center some nights. Had a sweet tutoring gig in which I pulled in $8 hour per person and sometime tutored 3 at a time.

Is JS still doing gigs? I haven't talked to George in, like, forver.

Just when you *think* it's a small world, you realize it really isn't. =)

I worked opening shift at the I/O window--hardly ever worked nights, which is probably why we didn't run into each other there.

Haven't seen a poster for JS in ages, so I would assume not. That whole glorious music scene pretty much whimpered to an end about 1999/2000. Dunno what happened--some sort of weird zeitgeist where most of the (IMO) talented local bands dissolved.

Good-looking guy, about 5'10, blonde hair cut short-ish, blue eyes, no glasses, dressed pretty non-descript. If you knew the alt music scene around 1995-2000, he was the bassist for Julia Surrendered.
