Binge

I need an icon for piggy piggy porker-face.

Yesterday, I binged. Binged it up right, in (nearly) every way possible.

After getting the bummer news about Buck, I made some coffee and rooted around for breakfast. Nothin'.

Went to the grocery store and picked up some ingredients for bran muffins (I started out with good intentions) and then wandered down the cracker/cookie aisle. Never a good move. Wheat Thins (always a temptation for me) has a new flavor out--Sundried Tomato something or other. I also picked up some sour cream for dip-making and some vegetables. So far, I wasn't doing too bad, although I knew I was on a slippery slope when I passed over the lite sour cream for the fully-leaded stuff.

I got home and made the dip with a spicy onion dip mix a friend gave me for xmas (OK just let me say Thank You Alonzo, even though you don't read this, it needs to be said. That stuff is the bomb) and put it in the fridge to set up while I made the muffins. By the way, Kellogg's is no longer printing the bran muffin recipe on their boxes of All-Bran cereal. So after ten freaking years of making them, I'm now recipe-less because of course I never wrote it down. I went with a different brand of cereal that had a recipe on the box and they're actually really good. They're made with yogurt instead of milk. Quite tasty. So tasty, in fact, that I feel like they aren't as good for me as the All-Bran ones. Anyway.

So. Muffins and coffee. So far, not too bad. Then, about mid-morning, the munchies hit.

I pulled out the dip and crackers. The combo was a little too strong, so I limited the dip to just the vegetables and ate the crackers plain. Yum. Read through an entire paperback (Airs Above The Ground, if you must know) while chowing over the course of an hour or three. I decided I wanted something sweet, so I had a little sliver of the chocolate torte left over from Saturday night. Oh, heck, and might as well make another pot of coffee to go with it. Did I mention the left over heavy cream from the torte's ganache? That went nicely with the coffee. And, you know, torte.

By two o'clock or so, I was feeling peckish again (I have no idea why. Or, really, how) and I realized I hadn't had much protein. Shame on me! Nothing in the house sounded appealing, so back to Dillon's for a rotisserie chicken. One nice thing about living alone, is I don't have to fight anyone for my favorite parts: the wings and back. OK, so no one ever fought for me when I was living with people, but now I can eat them messily and greedily without worrying about being tidy. Yum. Chicken. Oh, and I polished off that box of Wheat Thins because I needed something to soak up the grease from the chicken.

[livejournal.com profile] adammaker came over around 4:00 for more coffee and food. I was really, really awake by then.

Later that evening (somehow I managed to not be hungry for dinner--imagine!) I wanted something sweet but the torte was looking a little too dense. So I just made up a little old batch of Toll House Cookies. The full butter version. Somehow or another, I only wound up with five dozen cookies because, I don't know, maybe someone made herself sick eating a lot of dough. I did manage to choke down three of the cookies because dude. Warm cookies!

Night time finally rolled around and I went to sleep or god knows what else I might have eaten.

it sounds like a good way to mark Buck Owens' passing.
Excess to excess.

Choco chip cookies? :whimper:

I'll bring some on Wednesday.

I felt like that on Saturday, and all I did was just go down to the new sports bar down the street and have a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings.

But...mmmmmmmmmmm. Tasty.

Hehehe... Though I don't think you need it, here you go, as requested!

I think it just sounds like a tasty way to spend a day!

My dear, if your going to go, go...

However, such binging is only a bad thing if it is a daily occurance.

And just so you know, one of the best things about the internet is that you can pretty much find anything you want...particularly if it is a recipe:

The Original All-Bran™ Muffins

THANK YOU for the recipe!

I looked, briefly, but couldn't find the original recipe, just other people's variations on it.

And oh yes, I enjoyed every damned moment of all that gluttony. It was bliss!!!! Except for the tummyache from the cookie dough. That was kinda crummy, but passed soon enough.

Actually, WalMart had this up, scarily enough.

I just...

found the same things. Fortunately I decided to check the remarks before posting in case someone beat me to it, as you did. ;-)

I could find ALL recipes that easily. I think I'm going to have to BUY a back issue of "Living" just for the recipes 'cause they're not on her website.

The torte was AMAZING!

I really do subscribe to the free-day concept.

You can eat most anything once-a-week, and not damage your long term plans.

Now, mind you, you don't need to do it every week either. *grin*
mmm, Planned gluttony!

I can count on a day-long binge, similar to the above (or worse) about once a year.

I only do it alone, which I know smacks of Eating Disorder. But I so enjoy making a pig of myself and being able to read or listen to music or whatever and having the house and food all to myself.

Glad you liked the torte. It was ridiculously easy.

Yesterday was an eating day. Don't know why. I put out snacks for the Icarus crew, a couple of them brought baked goods (cinnamon chip cookies are teh bomb, BTW), and we pretty much grazed non-stop for five hours while we gamed. Food is good. And there were even vegetables involved.

Both yours and Robin's are great, but the one I already had perfect, on reflection. =)

I'm with you on the wheat thin weakness. And of course Roe will pass other freebies for them as well.
We had company Saturday and left over shrimp and gouda and crackers.....not any more.

Mmmm... Wheat Thins. Perhaps I'll buy a box for dinner on the way over to class tonight *g*
