Slowly advancing to CotK

I'm itching for some new music. I broke the piggy bank and bought some of the cheaper CDs on my Amazon wish list. Every once in a great while I treat myself by buying anything $5 or less on my wishlist. This is one of those times...especially with all the time I'm spending locked in my apartment lately. I need some new tunes.

Yesterday I started work on revising the current English website to comply with the new KU web standards. After an hour I decided this was something that definitely required more stimulants than I currently had on hand here. Ugh. This is a job for ephedrine.

Also yesterday, while rehearsing in the dance studio, I pulled a muscle in my right hip. Ow. Stupid. Ow. It's a good thing I said I wouldn't be dancing at Aladdin tonight.

A zillion thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong for helping me fit the pattern for my belt. After she and the very patient [livejournal.com profile] everflame left I made a fabric mock-up, fiddled with a couple alterations, and transfered those to paper. Then I got up early this morning and traced the final pattern. Tonight: cut the real fabric and get the base tacked together. I'll have the entire costume finished by the end of the weekend if I don't let myself get sidetracked. That will give me three days of rehearsal in the costume before the show. I've never had a wardrobe malfunction on stage *knock*knock* because I'm a stickler for test-running all costumes before performance. But the completion date on this costume was running pretty close to the wire.

And now that I've eaten breakfast, it's time for another dose of ibuprofen to relax this hip muscle. And maybe some more caffeine. Thunderstorms are all well and good but I'm (literally) tired of being kept awake by them.

I am always thrilled to be kept awake by thunderstorms...what I am tired of is having no company when I'm awake ;-)

The storm hit a little before 1:00 a.m. CotK is July 22 and 23! Coming up too fast!

[identity profile] iron-clad.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I still have yet to give the CD I made for you. I even have made a sequel to it and if your a good little girl, I can make it a trilogy. ;) Nice icon btw.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to disappoint, but I make it a point never to be a good little girl.

[identity profile] iron-clad.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I would'nt want it any other way. Just call me your little fan. ;)

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also working on stuff that includes those new KU rules.

I agree with the need for speed.
Bleck.

Thoughts of music and dancing are much more tempting.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got an email in to Julie Loats about possible shortcuts and actual templates. I'll let you know what I hear back.

[identity profile] adammaker.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet!
Just drop an email to the ku.edu address please!

Additional music?

I'm on it. Got any requests?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Instrumental. Techy but melodic. Cocteau Twins meet Fluke. Got anything?

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Talvin Singh's entry in the Back to Mine series is particularly good (available here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005NWZ6/sr=8-4/qid=1152810997/ref=pd_bbs_4/103-1345960-4889412?ie=UTF8)). The albums When It Falls and Simple Things by Zero 7 are good, but may be a bit too soul-y and not percussive enough for you; I dig 'em, though. I've been listening the hell out of A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002BVY/ref=cm_srch_res_rpli/103-1345960-4889412?ie=UTF8) and Blue Wonder Powder Milk (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000009QOY/ref=pd_bxgy_text_b/103-1345960-4889412?ie=UTF8) by Hooverphonic lately, but I'm in an odd headspace. Might fit your needs, but it's a bit Portisheady.

Hm. I'll ponder, in hopes of pWndering later.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll go check those out. Thanks!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
From the agonizingly short 30 second clips on amazon.com, Hooverphonic sounds like a very good possibility! Alas, Talvin Singh has no audio samples.

You have an Amazon wishlist?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Here! (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=yourlists_pop_1/102-0353845-6956122)

[identity profile] professormass.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)

Keen. What kind of music are you looking for?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
See my comment to [livejournal.com profile] sdemory, above. Right now I'm looking for instrumental (or at least non-invasive vocals) techno-styled stuff. Ethnic influences always a plus.

I need to find someone with NIN's latest. I've heard it's very fine, but would like a preview before I drop my $$.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you like CocoRosie?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. I really liked those Squirrel Nut Zippers you brought over. But I'm not a fan of folk, bluegrass, etc. Is CocoRosie folksy?

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they are far from folk . . . hard to describe.

Here, have a listen. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001F7US4/ref=pd_bxgy_text_b/102-9758111-4739340?ie=UTF8) You'll need to scroll down a bit . . .

I can burn some Squirrel Nut Zippers if you'd like . . . I'm avoiding work . . .

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. No, I think I'm not a fan of CocoRosie. Too...songwritery. I like a little more electronic sound with my bizzare vocal samplings. =D

I'll just buy the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I only use burned CDs when I'm trying to decide if I like a band or not. I have a weird thing about paying for music. Thank you for the offer, though!

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
With CocoRosie, you either love them or don't. I LOVE them.

We had talked before that you wanted me to burn a cd of some Indian pop music . . . maybe I misunderstood about burning cd's.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love a CD sampler of banghra music!! I like to get burned CDs from friends (that way I don't have to worry about losing their original CDs) and then if I like it, I go buy it.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I never mind hanging at your place!

And, btw, I *did* notice that those were your manacles in PotC. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
=D

::love you::

[identity profile] auroraceleste.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'll go in on that cheeptrims order. Just let me know when you're ready for my links and how you want my money.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Kick ass. I'll email ya.

[identity profile] kalinobeche.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I had a few vintage clothing items that didn't sell at the garage sale. I've had [livejournal.com profile] femefatalaetron drop them by the writer's group meeting tonight since they'll see you before I do.
Just so's ya know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, cool! Thank you so much!!!!
