Time goes so fast when you're having fun

Because, as [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka says, this news isn't going to spread through anything but word of mouth: President Bush's penchant for writing exceptions to laws he has just signed violates the Constitution, an American Bar Association task force says in a report highly critical of the practice.

Regarding the circumstances surrounding the photo I posted yesterday: At [livejournal.com profile] theoneinblue's wedding last month, her mom was insistent about the bouquet toss, despite the fact that all the single girls in attendance were pretty much die-hard feminist types for whom this particular tradition is mildly distasteful at the least. But since there were only six or so of us, we lined up for it, each of us I think feeling a bit like we were lining up for a firing squad, not a wedding tradition. [livejournal.com profile] theoneinblue threw the flowers over her shoulder and I swear the world went into slow motion. It was like my own personal bullet time. I looked to my right and Beth (whom you can see in the charming black and pink dress) was squinting her eyes closed and had her hands to her sides. The girl to my left (I didn't know her) actually took a step backwards. I looked at the bouquet arching towards us and I knew the damn thing was going to fall on the floor if I didn't do something. So I just reached out my arm and, without me even stepping forward, the damn thing fell right into my hand. [livejournal.com profile] theoneinblue did thank me later. It was a true act of selflessness--my personal wedding gift to her. I'm afraid it means those other girls are gonna have a long wait for their own trips down the aisle. Sorry, gals.

I'm having some problems coming to grips with the fact that this weekend is the last weekend of July. In. Sane.

Last weekend in July? I am still not sure where June went... only May, for that matter. Wasn't it January just the other day?

Sen. Specter is suing over the signing.

Wow. I actually support something that Specter is submitting? Truly, armageddon is upon us.

It seems like months = weeks to me anymore. Crazy.

Hey, according to CNN, armageddon being upon us is worthy of being treated like it's news. Argh. *gnashing of teeth*

I've had the same experience at weddings - and caught the damned things more than once, in pretty much the same way. Like "Oh my gods, it's coming right for us!"

Don't worry, the flower grenade will NOT explode in your hand. :)

Yes,
I once caught it after it flew over all the women standing there, I was another 20-30 feet back.
-=-
Still has not happened to me!

Don't worry, catching the flowers only means that you are a floral attractant. Next time you walk by a florist, watch carefully and you'll see that all the flowers twitch in your direction, just a little bit.

Awww, that's charming! Thank you!

Bouquet

A similar thing happened to me at [livejournal.com profile] shrijani's first wedding. She had to toss the bouquet really high to clear this wire thing. As a result the flowers were falling many feet short of the reluctant single women. I felt bad about the bouquet hitting the ground, so I ran for it and practically dove to catch the thing. Time seemed to slow down for me, too. Folks were amused and I joked about how the thing fell right into my hands.

It really was done out of love, eh? We deserve a medal or something.

Two notes:

1) If you'd like, I'll marry you. Or, at least, add you to my eventually burgeoning harem. That would probably be better, as you'd only have to deal with me on occasion and you could scheme and wear silk and gems.

2) The signing statement thing's been skulking around the fringes of news (http://community.livejournal.com/danger_army/116912.html) for a while. Glad to see that the mainstream's stepping up.

Re: 1) I've had a remarkably similar offer from [livejournal.com profile] professormass. I think you might have to armwrestle him for me.

it's so not fair, why can't we line up for the garter toss instead?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm going to do that at the next wedding I go to. Seriously.

Or why don't they throw something useful like condoms? New and sealed in the package of course.

Holly's wedding there was
"For those interested in a committed relationship with a man - please line up for the catching of the brides boquet"
"For those interested in a committed relationship with a woman - please line up for the catchign of the garter"

Us hot bi babes got to go for both, and the married poly folk were welcome also
