Days of whine and sewing

That thing with my left shoulder hasn't gotten any better. In fact, I think it's worse after yoga last night. Rats. I've also got a bit of a sore throat when I swallow. Damn it!!! First sunny day we've had all week and what do I want to do? I want to curl up in bed with some lemon-honey tea and a heating pad. *sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] shrijani, I must run to Hancock Fabrics tonight right after work to get some elastic. It's not likely that I'll be later than 5:30. But if you arrive at my place earlier than 5:45 and I'm not home, just give me a minute. I'll be there momentarily. Promise. [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong, do you want me to pick up anything while I'm there? I'm annoyed that I must make the trek when all I need is 2 feet of 3/4" white non-rolling elastic (all I have is black). Grrrr.

It was such a pleasure last night to be sewing something other than faire garb! After [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong and [livejournal.com profile] everflame left, I stayed up until 11:00 making flannel PJs. Bliss.

This weekend, though, little Elna is going to the shop for the annual tune up. I've decided to surrender the last two years of the ten-year Elna warranty and take it to Lawrence Vac & Sewing (not an authorized Elna dealership). I've had nothing but good experiences taking my White to him for service, and the past two years, Sew Easy in KC (where I bought the Elna) has been nothing but a nightmare. They changed their hours and the staff has become grumpy and snotty. I think they must've been bought or changed management. It's enough of a burden for me to shuttle the machine to and from KC during working business hours. I don't need bad attitude and poor service added to inconvenience.

Finally, I need to start saving the money for a good, high-quality serger. I spent twenty minutes trying to re-thread the serger kindly loaned to me by [livejournal.com profile] solan_t, but I never did get it to work. It's the same trouble I always had with the Simplicity serger I owned years ago. Thread 4 (or 5?) won't stay threaded through the final three eyes. I never had this problem when I used [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe's spiff sergers. I need to suck it up and save my pennies for a good Bernina or similar quality serger. [livejournal.com profile] solan_t, this means you're welcome to pick up the serger anytime. =D

EDIT: All of a sudden, I don't like John McCain much at all anymore. This is like the politicians who make racist comments and then go "What? What? I only said it as a joke!" Not funny, Mr. McCain. Not funny at all.

Oh there is nothing worse than doing yoga when you are coming down with something, it invariably manages to make me much sicker.

Hopefully you are not getting what's trying to get me/has gotten me.

D.

Luckily, I have one packet of Emergen-C left here at the office! I'm downing that right now.

I haven't liked John McCain much lately... As much as he was the hope for the Republicans in government, because he was one of the decent sane ones, he's gone insane on us. I mean, he was palling around with Jerry Falwell for a while there. ACK! I seriously think something is going on with all the good guys, that Bush is doing SOMETHING, I don't know what, to make them lose their minds... Maybe a bit too conspiracy theory-ish, but too many of them are going crazy all at once, and I wouldn't put it past Bush's family.

You might want to check with your good sewing machine repair place to see if they have any used Bernina or BabyLock sergers for sale. (Mine is an older BabyLock, which I love dearly - sadly, they're not made any more.) At the least, perhaps they could put you on a 'notify-me' list when one comes in.

As for the McCain comments, I agree. I used to think he might be the last great hope of the GOP, but now he just looks like one of the badly-behaved teenagers in my classes, the ones who think nothing of screwing around in class and then saying, "My bad" when I call them on it. (Yes, it was, and no, that's not an apology - try again...)

Yes, I am one of *those* kind of teachers.....

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe uses BabyLocks and they are absolutely faboo! I'm sure I'll wind up buying a used serger, and those are at the top of my list.

I have to go to Hancock's to get bias tape after work and I need to actually be there to match the colors. How about I pick up your elastic? Or do you need it before tonight?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd be fabooo! 3/4" white non-rolling elastic (the expensive kind). 2/3 yard, please! Thank you thank you thank you.

[identity profile] nataliesee.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem. I'll have it for you this evening. :)

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If Cedarsong wasn't, I could have. Tonight is sewing meet up.

Let me know a convenient time to pick the serger up. No hurry, though, unless you want the space back.

I'm home next week on Monday evening, knitting and tea-drinking with [livejournal.com profile] bestill. That's my only at-home night next week. I also have some time where I'll be home Saturday late afternoon/early evening until about 8:00.

I don't really need the space back, but I figure you might want it back soon for holiday sewing.

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It will certainly come in handy (assuming *I* can re-thread it) when I get myself properly motivated to start my Costume Con costume. Really need to start NOW. NOW. Hear that, self? NOW.

Monday sounds good.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
See ya Monday!

And sorry about the rethreading business. I have no idea how it came undone in the first place. I was going along fine, then suddenly bang none of the threads were looping. *sigh*

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Pfft! I have had it come OUT OF THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE and continue to be pulled through (that is, no visible snapped thread). It's magic, I tell you.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. That's exactly what happened. Maddening, I tell you.

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it - and see you then.

And ooh, the sun is out? What a relief... hope your shoulder improves.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you know, he already has made the racist comments. He dismissed it by saying that the term only applied to his Vietnamese captors.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-10-19 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'd forgotten all about that. Thank you for reminding me.
