Another example of fine leadership
This is rich.
Bush says he didn't intend to insult Democrats. WASHINGTON, Jan 29 - President George W. Bush said on Monday he did not intend to insult Democrats by failing to pronounce their party's full name in his State of the Union address. "I didn't know I did it," Bush told NPR in an interview.
In his speech last Tuesday, Bush declared to a joint session of the U.S. Congress that "I congratulate the Democrat majority." Some Democrats were incensed he did not say "Democratic." The party's proper name is the Democratic Party.
Republicans for years have dropped the last two letters of the name as a slight to the party. Bush's prepared text of his speech had the proper name but he misstated it in his address.
Bush called it an oversight and said he was "not that good at pronouncing words anyway." He said he was surprised at the level of distrust in Washington.
"There is a lot of politics in Washington -- in my judgment, needless politics. And it's almost like, 'If George Bush is for it, we're against it,' and 'If he's against it, we're for it.' And the American people don't like that," Bush said.
In his speech, Bush went out of his way to praise California Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), the new speaker of the House of Representatives, and declared his intent to work with Democrats in the majority of the House and Senate.
Leaving the somewhat petty complaint of the Democratic party aside, this is the statement that really got me: Bush called it an oversight and said he was "not that good at pronouncing words anyway." He said he was surprised at the level of distrust in Washington.
Well he's not that good at leading the country, so maybe he should just give up trying to do that, too. And he's surprised at the level of distrust in Washington? You've got to be fucking kidding me. "And the American people don't like that," my ass. How the hell would he know what the American people would or wouldn't like? He hasn't paid any attention to "the American people" since 2000, when we didn't elect him that time, either.

*shrug*
Just seems like that sort of thing takes up way too much time and, in the end, doesn't really accomplish much.

Shouldn't the media who use phrases like (taken from above) "...his intent to work with Democrats in the majority.." be more correctly phrased as "The Democratics"?

The Democratic Party - the party itself
Democrat - member of the party
Democrats - multiple members of the party
Coming from a scientific background, I feel they should take on a more ionized connotation: "The Democratious Party". :)

I like how they tried to behead the last dem president because of fibbing about analingus, but we're not supposed to go after the shrub and his crew for lying to us to get us to go to war and to occupy a sovereign nation -- that even his daddy knew was an untenable position.
It makes me sad that Molly Ivins' voice is no longer available to poke well-aimed fun at them.
