Better

I feel much better today. Thanks all for the well-wishes. The injury wasn't as bad as I feared--just a pulled muscle, no joint damage. Resting it all day yesterday worked wonders and I'm mostly getting around just fine now.

I ordered the damn shoes online after all. I made the best effort I could to buy locally--I even tried to find alternate styles of shoes that places in town had in stock. [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit will attest that nothing came close in terms of style. Everything that looked remotely appropriate for traipsing about in museums and the Italian countryside looked orthopedic, hippie-esque, or *shudder* both. So. Let's hope these fit. At least Zappo's has free shipping.

Bad work attitude lately. Not helpful. It's nothing major--I just don't want to be here. Meh. My office is freezing and that does not help.

I told [livejournal.com profile] shrijani, who sparked a sort of "hot or not" dialogue in her LJ that I would post a list of (famous) people I find attractive, but now I'm not feeling up to it. The magic 8-ball says Try Again Later.

I must have missed your post about hurting yourself! Glad you are okay.

Would you like to borrow a space heater for your office? I've got a little one I'm not using.

Can't use a space heater. We barely have enough electrical power to keep our computers running. =(

Very happy to hear the good news, I twinge sharply at possible hip injuries. Consider it a good excuse to curl up with a cup of cocoa and Fetish :).

I do know what you mean about shoes that are made for the orthopedic hippie. Sigh. Those are about the only ones that I can wear. I've also had unrequited love for two pairs of black Doc lace-up boots, each of which belonged to a friend who ultimately repossessed them.

Tron, my daughter who lives here from time to time, has a terrible Zappos addiction. Box after box arrives at the door, containing boots to be tried on and (usually) rejected and sent back. She has utterly no shame about it and I am in awe of her. Clothes, too. She once ordered five different versions of a J. Crew quilted jacket because she couldn't decide which color combination would look best on her. Then she sent four of them back. I feel I have a personal relationship with the Fed Ex man.

My mother has terrible problems with her feet: bunions and hammer toes. She's had to have surgery for the hammer toes and is looking at operating on the bunions now.

I try to walk a line between sexy and sensible, and when I do wear The Sexy shoes, I make an effort to wear Very Sensible for a couple days afterwards. Regular stretching and massage of my feet and toes helps, too. I hope against hope that such efforts will keep me from inheriting her feet troubles.

I'm so sorry you lost your Docs. That must've been heartbreaking. Boo!!!

And, you'll get to break them in. It took me years to learn that new shoes for walking travel should be worn for months before the trip just to make sure. I got some lovely blisters one day in Florence and retreated back to better broken in shoes.

Remember, you bought something that was made locally somewhere :)
