Irksome

I went to go swim my laps this morning and there was someone in my lane (lane 4). After going back to the main desk to make sure I was told the correct lane, I had to go back and ask the girl to please get out of my lane. She moved to the next lane (lane 5), and her friend moved one over (to lane 6). Five minutes later, the person who had lane 6 reserved had to ask them to move. They both moved to lane 5. D came in at about 6:07 and had to ask them to move out of his lane. They moved to lane 3. Around 6:20, someone came in and asked them to please get out of his lane 3. The woman in lane 2 said she was leaving and the man could have her lane, so the two lane squatters got to keep their lane.

I like working out in the morning because for the most part people are there to work out, not socialize, and avoid the crowds that attend in the afternoons/evenings. Generally people don't talk too much to each other and everyone leaves each other alone. But these two girls made four people (that I saw--they were still there when I left) confront them in order to get their reserved lane. Nobody wants to deal with that first thing in the morning.

Now the two girls had reserved lanes 4 & 5 from 5:30 to 6:00, so I'm not upset that one of them was in my lane when I got there at 5:55. But my whole workout was somewhat cramped (ha ha) by my rising irritation at them. How presumptious! How rude! I haven't decided if I should call the front desk to say something about it. I guess I'll see if it happens again on Thursday.

Grump.

You know, if it didn't cost you to work out there, it wouldn't be such a pain in the bee-hind. That's what I like about working out the way I do (when I do it): I have a couple of 30-pound dumb-bells at home (shiny chrome with adjustable weights), a big sit-up ball that Kij bought for a chair, an 80-pound bag (which I'll hang when we buy our house), and a bicycle.

Feh on stupid lane-squatting girls!

Hey, if I ever sign up for that kickboxing class, maybe I'll come over to make use of your heavy bag. =)

kickin' it!

Oooh, yeah! Having a kick-boxing partner always makes it much more fun. Have you trained at all in the martial arts?

Ah, no. Not at all. I'm still trying to work up the courage to sign up for the kickboxing class. The two biggest deterrents: 1) I've never even seen a kickboxing class 2) this one starts at 5:30 a.m. I have no problem getting to the gym at 5:30, but I don't know that I'm up for punching things around that early. I also contacted a local martial arts instructor about lessons, but haven't heard back from him, so I guess I'll look elsewhere if I want to do something like that. Do you have any recommendations for a rather slow-reacting, non-competitive, passive-type person? =)

I think we (you, Kij, me, anyone else we know who wants a kickin' workout) should get together regularly in our new garage and do warm-ups and then beat on the heavy bag. We'll just do the basic techniques, no need for full class!

Hmmm... that could be fun... thinking about it...
