Vertigo

I feel terrible.

I tried to get into a yoga posture last night (an alternative supported style of shoulder stand) and kept slipping off my bolster. This kept making my head fall backwards, which always makes me dizzy, and I wound up feeling pretty sick by the end of the session. It was a scary drive home, but I made it ok. I went to the grocery store to get some cookies (horrible, I know, but for some reason starchy sweets usually ease my motion sickness). Cookies tasted great but did zip for the vertigo. And this morning, it has abated somewhat but I'm still supersensitive and dizzy.

I almost threw up my morning coffee on the leopard print couch. Bad. Very bad.

So it's been a couple hours since that and while I'm not feeling too comfortable with the idea of eating solid food, I hope I'm ok with tea. Because this new tea I purchased last night (with the cookies) is absolutely stellar. Bigelow Cherry Almond. They have a whole new line out, apparently. I didn't see the Vanilla Hazelnut or Cherry Vanilla at the store last night but believe me I'll be stocking up on these.

Now back to remembering to not look up when someone comes through the office door. This is also an exercise in true touch typing since I can't look down at my hands.

Too bad I'm saving up my sick time (and today's the last day of enrollment so I really need to be here just in case) or I'd head home. It's a glorious day to stay home. Rainy and dreary with occasional rumbles of thunder.

Barf.

Indeed vertigo is a hellacious pain in the ass.

Oh man. =/ I get motion sickness too, really really badly. Try ginger -- if you can get some candied ginger, or ginger tablets, or even ginger snaps! It really helps, and usually pretty quickly. I also use Sea Bands -- http://www.seaproductsonline.com/index69.html -- they really work. About 15 minutes after you put them on your wrists, you feel a lot better. And, if you use them *before* you do something motion-sickness inducing, you can usually avoid getting sick at all. You can find them in a lot of drugstores, or even health food stores (usually sold for morning sickness). Travel stores have them, too.

Anyway, good luck. I know how awful it feels.

I used ginger and Seabands when I was pregnant for morning sickness! It was all that helped so I was able to work without running to the loo to be sick every few minutes.

Yeah, Sea Bands have saved many a nice dinner out for me. Nothing worse than going out for supper and being too nauseated to eat. =)

Thanks for the idea for the motion sickness bracelets. I've seen them, but thought it sounded like a crock. =) Maybe I'll get a box and just take them to yoga classes with me.

[identity profile] stimps.livejournal.com 2003-12-09 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Check and doublecheck on the crock. =D I thought so too, until I read some actual test results with motion sick people. I figured hey, why not, they're only ten bucks. Good choice in retrospect.

Oh dear! If I could I would totally bring my little sick self there and keep you company, or take over so you could go home and sleep! Take care and get well soon :>

Thanks! Misery loves company.

I've actually had two panicked students at my desk already this morning, needing permission codes for enrollment, so it's a good thing I'm here. Makes me feel good for doing the virtuous thing by coming to work, but at the same time, I wonder why the idiots didn't get enrolled before now--Enrollment started a week before Thanksgiving. Grrrrr.

Geez! It sounds so...involved. If I don't feel better by this afternoon, I might try this when I get home. =b

at least you didn't fart during Yoga class

LOL! One of my great fears! =)

I try not to eat for at least 3 hours before class. That helps.

oooh, poor honey. *pat, pat*

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2003-12-09 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, at least I'm keeping solid food down now! Wooo!

Ooh, the vanilla caramel appeals to me. I might have to see if I can find that tonight. Have you tried ginger? It might not help too much with the motion sickness but it should ease your stomach a bit.

I found the tea at the Dillon's on 6th & Lawrence. Luckily my stomach is much better now and all I have is a swirly headache in the back of my skull.

Hope you feel better soon. Vertigo sucks.

But you're sort of lucky with enrollment, wrapping it up now. My employees have until December 31st — so guess who will be working New Year's?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2003-12-09 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Too bad. That stinks. New Year's is my favorite dress-up-and-get-drunk holiday. Sorry yours won't be quite so festive.

Tea sounds super yummy. I love Cherry flavor--gotta check out the Cherry Almond.
The flu going around has a vertigo component--be prepared: vitamin c and plenty of fluids!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2003-12-09 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, this isn't flu, this is me being dumb and trying to do something that I knew would make me dizzy. Ptphptpthtthtpp.

BTW, I finally found out who you are, you sly minx, you! You shoulda said hi earlier!!!

Those seabands actually are pressing on acupuncture points. Its Pericardium 6 (P6) You can also rub on some of that capsicum cream or cut up a small piece of capsicum plaster on those points too to help with nausea and vomiting. You can find the cream in any drugstore where they keep the ben gay and arthritis stuff...it may be strong for your sensitive skin, so only use a tiny amount. I can get the plasters for you at the herbal store-they are GREAT to have around for sore backs and stuff!!!I NEED to do a chinese medicine run so let me know!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2003-12-10 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oooo! Yeah, pick one up for me! That sounds great! Thanks! You can include it in the next pack of stuff I buy from on you eBay! LOL! BTW, thanks for reminding me...I have been typing *lots* at work and should probably do that gwa sha thing on my arm tonight.
