The beloved little CRX

Cost me another $300 dollars yesterday. It kept stalling, despite me letting it warm up for 10 minutes before heading to work. It died twice on the way to the first stop sign, and then at the stop sign, and then when I got to the Merc at 9th & Iowa. When I got it started again, I turned into the Merc parking lot and went home. Took it into the the shop and 7 hours later it was running like a champ, but to the tune of a big ol' chunk outta the finances. Suck.

I've now put over $500 into it in the past 4 weeks. The blue book value on it is only $900! I'm hoping that this is the last of the problems for a *long* time. I was hoping to nurse it along until 300,000 miles. At this point, I'm not sure it (or my patience) will last that long. Oh, and did I mention it could also use new tires?

But I came into work today and there's a ton of stuff on my desk--good stuff! Someone brought me a mug filled with homemade caramels, a loaf of Croatian Nut Bread, a 50s panther light, some lavender soap and lotion, a nut sampler box, 3 cards (one of which looks like a gift certificate to Borders), and something wrapped that will get put next to the tree tonight. Also in my inbox is (not so exciting) a shitload of paperwork.

I don't feel like working today. At least not on this stuff. I don't know why, but I'm not as interested in the kids applying for grad school this year. I wonder if it's because I'm no longer the first point of contact for them? Dunno. I just know that I really have no interest in checking their files for completeness and getting them ready for review in January. I don't want to mess with it. I want to chow down on some of this food and eat myself into a carb coma. Moooooooo.

Saturday we went out to see a friend's new band, The Rhythm Busters, at Replay. They rocked the house! It was fantabulous. If you see a poster for them, I encourage you to note the date and location and show up for the show. Good western swing. No, *great* western swing. Fantastic sound. Really. Go see 'em.

Wow, sun's out. Gorgeous blue sky. I shall open my curtains, even though that will probably make my desk area even colder. Damn poor insulated windows. But oooo, pretty blue sky.

Holy crap, you are the Popular Work Person!! Just reading about that has made me hongry. Mmm, nut bread. Time to raid the cupboard...

Yeah, one nice thing about working here--the faculty and teaching staff *really* appreciate the secretaries. It's so nice to be appreciated! Unlike my job before this, that always gave me bad reviews and ten-cent raises. Phooey on them and pass the nut bread!!!!

Sounds like Christmas is already here for you! It's nice to have an appreciative department, and the timing after yesterday's car struggles was well chosen. A panther light- does that refer to shape or show my ignorance?

One of those ceramic monstrosities shaped like a panther about to pounce that they produced in the 50s. Lemme see if I can find a link.....

Just checking, because that was my initial thought. Then I wondered if I had my decades correct.

Here. Sort of like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3259865491&category=13864), only this one is magenta.

Yay, presents on a bad motorcar day. More sacrifices to Transportania.
I heard the band when I walked by the Replay the other night, and I agree, they sounded great. You may tempt into one of these outings yet. :)
