Stomach ache

I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] breathofgold for pointing me to Punditkitchen.com.

Slight nausea and a headache woke me up a couple times last night and both were still present when I woke up this morning. I had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong and [livejournal.com profile] everflame last night, and [livejournal.com profile] everflame is suffering the exact same thing. [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong feels great. Not a surprise, I guess, that it would me be and [livejournal.com profile] everflame who were in the same boat, but we're unsure why [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong got spared. Her kind, generous nature, probably. And maybe the fact that we only let her drink about half as much as we did.

The more I work on it, the less enamored I am with the Steampunk costume. What's up with that? Boo.

All that snark takes its toll. :/

Course, look at the new icon I found. Nausea isn't so good a teacher, it seems.

Ugh. Who knew?

Regarding your icon, it reminds me of a line in a song by The Breeders (know them?), I Just Wanna Get Along (http://www.metrolyrics.com/i-just-wanna-get-along-lyrics-breeders.html). (click for lyrics)

The live version is kind of sucky, but I don't think they made a video for it since it wasn't released as a single (I don't think).

Neat lyrics, though.

I've poisoned your mind. Sorry about that.

Speaking with absolutely no knowledge of your costume, maybe you need to cast a broad net. If you're going for British Victoriana, go deconstructed American frontier Victoriana or go Gallic and put in hints of fin de siecle Chinoiserie or Arabian Nights orientalist flair.

One of my ongoing problems with steampunk (aside from the fact that we hates it forever) is that it's so very, very white, which runs counter to many of the stylistic threads running through the cultures from which it draws. Run counter to the "bustle... goggles... WIN!" crowd and you'll be golden.

Well, brass.

See what I did there? I'm making peace with steam!

I'm already leaning a bit more towards the Wild West look anyway, but adding more orientalism is a fantastic idea. One of my main fabrics is a brown oriental brocade, so that's perfect. Maybe I'll do some image googling on that today. Thank you for the idea.

And don't worry, no goggles for me, thanks. I am considering a sort of bustle-ish skirt idea, though. Mostly because I want to show off my legs.

For some reason, I see a big feathery "side-of-the-head thingy" with that Wild West image .. but brown feathers can be so dull.

If you find a great source for (cheap!) granny boots, be sure to let me know.

.. and fwiw, I got a screamer of a headache last night.

I've made a vow of No More Cheap Shoes for myself, but if I see something posted on the steampunk comm, I'll let you know.

Boo for headaches.

Thanks! I've found some wonderful insoles that rescued an old pair of cheapies that I got, but I understand yer position. Feets is important, and comfy feets even more!

Yah, these pressure headaches are killer! I think I'll knock this one out tonight with a pitcher of Diablos. ;)

Approved!

You know, I can never seem to eat what I cook. Other say its good, but it always seems to taste awful to me. Maybe you have something of that mindset about the costume?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
This hasn't ever happened before with a costume, though. I think a lot of it stems from the fact that I still don't have a firm image of what I want for the final product. It feels very thrown together at this point.

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I can see how that could be a problem. Fewer expectations to be disappointed in later, though. :)

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry you are feeling on the crappy side! As for the costume, maybe you should set it aside for awhile, and then you can re-evaluate with fresh eyes.

Unfortunately, I need to have it all done by May 22. I don't really have time to put it off. I took last night off--I'm not sure how much more procrastination is viable. =D

Steampunk!

[livejournal.com profile] featherynscale and I have been talking about Steampunk costuming and accessories. I may be making her a belt and wrench holsters for her DragonCon gear. Let me know if I can help with anything leathery!

Be happy, healthy and whole!

Very kind of you. I'll keep that in mind.
