Tornados? In Kansas? Surely not.

Yay.

Forecasters predict tornado outbreak on Thursday

The headline makes it sound like a flu epidemic.

I'm going to be miserable tomorrow because everybody in my office always gets panicked--Panicked!--when the weather gets bad. Because apparently snow, ice, hail, and thunderstorms never happen here and everyone just gets all in a tizzy. In fact, they're already buzzing about it, which is how I knew to go look it up on the LJ World site.

Bad enough I have to sit in this hell of florescent lighting. Now I'll have to listen to a minute-by-minute update of the Weather As It Progresses, much like the play-by-play rehashes of games during basketball season.

But I am in a foul mood today and my left ear is aching. I shouldn't be so sensitive/bitchy. And should something blow through town tomorrow, I'll be glad to have shelter in this (tragically) most-indestructible of buildings.

The End of the World

Hahaha!

GAWD. Seriously.

When it gets bad, I'm always like, "oooo maybe the power will go off and I can read! Or rescue someone from the elevator again!"

maybe the power will go off and I can read!

*flutters hands dramatically and shrieks*

For heaven's sake, stay away from your windows!

...of course, if a tornado does wipe out campus, I'm going to feel very silly...

Oh...
They have tornados in Kansas?!? Imagine that...
/sarcasm

Given that I spent Saturday night and again last night with the cats in their carriers in our bedroom (the only interior room in this house - no basement, just a crawl space that I will only enter if/when I see the funnel on a direct bearing for this place), I can see now that things are going to get real interesting around here again. Joy...

Good luck! Hopefully your kitties get in their crates as easily as Fetish does. I feel for people with animals that refuse to go in their crates in emergency situations.

I didn't think the threat was in our area of Kansas, so maybe you will be safe.

I'm not sure why you suffer. Have these people not lived in Kansas for long? Unless they are new to tornado alley, you'd think they'd be as desensitized to it as I am.

You'd think that, wouldn't you?

Ngnngnngnn.

Actually, folks act like a disturbed hive when it thunderstorms. It happens al the time, even when they don't discuss weather.

I remember going out on my grandparents' beautiful front porch to watch the Indiana thunderstorms roll in. If there was enough warning, we'd go to Dairy Queen before the storm hit and they'd eat a banana split while I nommed on a Dilly Bar. So thunderstorms always bring a warm feeling of comfort and love for me.

Until co-workers wreck it.

What irritates me is how nobody seems to know how to read a radar, or know their directions. It also annoys me that people don't use NOAA rather than weather.com or the other third parties. BTW, your coworkers might calm down a tad if they read this hazardous weather statement for our area (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=KSZ040&warncounty=KSC045&firewxzone=KSZ040&local_place1=Lawrence+KS&product1=Hazardous+Weather+Outlook?\), but maybe not.

I tried to explain the radar to the people at work during the last two weather events. Guh...

Thanks for the link to the weather statement! I don't know that I'll bother passing it on, but it's a handy resource to keep near.

The latest from NOAA (subject to change) is that the storms are likelist in our area after 1am. So many reasons for panties to untwist, today! Yay! :)
