Warm

I was shocked this morning when I opened the back door to turn on Kitty T.V. (feed the birds and squirrels) and it felt warmer outside than inside. Sixty degrees at 9:00 a.m. on December 26th? Craziness. I left the door open for a few moments so Fetish could get a good sniff of Outdoors. So far nobody has shown up for breakfast, though, so I think the local fauna is as bewildered as I am by this weather change.

A small crew of us met up at Henry's last night--[livejournal.com profile] cba1282zyx, [livejournal.com profile] charmed_art, [livejournal.com profile] shrijani, and [livejournal.com profile] pamelonian, as well as a few other LJ-less freaks. It was a great time, although I burned my right ring finger on the damn heating lamp outside. Ouch. It's a fairly nasty burn (feels like a callous on the tip of my finger) so I'll wrap this up.

Question for the masses:

What is your method of removing labels from glass bottles and jars if you want the label to remain intact? I've shredded a couple lables I wanted to save by trying the soak-in-hot-water technique. Any innovative suggestions?

A soak in rubbing alcohol may work, depending on the type of label (slightly laminated, vs. straight up paper). I guarantee nothing. ;)

Take heart -- it's supposed to snow tomorrow. Yeah, I have been impressed by the freaky predictions.

Sorry, but a water soak is the best option. Then lift by using a razor blade to separate the glue from the glass. By looking inside the glass you can see the glue pattern and where the razor has to be applied.

Take heart? As in "take your heart, throw it on the ground, and stomp on it"?

The razor blade suggestion is excellent. I'll give it a try, thank you!

I've had good luck with steaming, too. But that's still essentially a water soak. Good luck!

When I used to work at the winery, we sold this stuff at the gift shop:

I have no idea if it works or not, but it might be worth a shot.

Hot damn. This looks pretty spectacular. Thank you!!!!

The ones I've shredded have all been thin paper that were too fragile to separate from the glass.

I fairly often will use the blowdryer. You heat the label and ever-oh-so-slowly peal it off as the glue heats and loosens. This requires patience (of which I have in very little supply) but works pretty well. Good Luck!

Wine labels... a soaking in Goo Gone as you slowly peel it off with a blade.

I checked on that laminated-sort of stuff.. I think clear Contact paper would be cheaper. :)
...and Cottins hardware is locally owned.

Interesting. I shall try it! Thank you!

Oooo! Contact paper. Clever girl!

How long did you soak them? I find that when I forget about a soaking bottle for, say, ten or twelve hours, I am able to get the label off in tact. Sometimes, I use just a little dish liquid or liquid hand soap in the mix.

And I am so sorry to hear about your finger!

Had SUCH a lovely time at your place! We must assemble that group again!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-12-28 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I only soaked it for a few hours. I'll try the next one overnight, thanks for the idea.

And yes, more! I want more cocktail parties with good conversations. Henry's is lovely, but it's so hard to talk, sometimes, in a crowd.

Yes! I am kind of burning out on Henry's, too, and I don't really want that to happen. More cocktail parties! With intermittent selections loud music, perhaps!

I am happy to provide a venue, certainly. Yay!
