Lessons

Today's entry in the Photo Experiment was a good lesson of what not to do. In general: no more photos at the office. The lighting in here requires a flash in order to get a non-blurry shot. And you can see for yourself what happens to me when I use a flash. Alas, my Photoshop skills are not sufficient to the task of making me look human. Or at least less like an exhibit at Madame Tussaud's. We'll call this one an example of what not to do and remember to get outside shots from now on. Or wait until I get home from work.

Other lessons:

Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut makes very fine mimosas. We've decided to keep a few bottles of sparkling wine on hand, because it was just too much fun--and no more expensive than the wines we purchase for the *cough* "cellar." Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shrijani for recommending Freixenet to me way way long ago.

It might not be possible to eat my weight in ice cream during one three-day weekend, but given the right environment, I can certainly give it my best shot. My birthday had temperatures in the high sixties. How could I not celebrate that unusual circumstance with my good friends Ben and Jerry?

Happy birthday, belated, but I wish you awesomeness.

I suck at remembering birthdays--I'm glad you enjoyed yours. Definitely nurture your friendship with Ben and Jerry; they never let you down!

Your hair is looking really cute as it grows! Can't wait to see you this weekend.

Don't sweat it. I don't pay much attention to them, either. I rarely used to remember even my parents' birthdays, but now that's when I go to visit them, so it's easier. To remember, that is.

Thanks for the hair compliment! I feel like it's getting to a not-too-awful stage. Or maybe I'm just getting used to it.

Thank you! It was a pretty awesome (if low-key) weekend.

*gasp* When we expose you to sunlight, you sparkle!

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!

Friexenet is like wine made out of butter!
Ray's Liquor Store has very good sales on it occasionally.

I likee the piccy... what BIG eyes you have!

Friexenet is like wine made out of butter!

Yes! That's perfect!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...flavored with bacon!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Except not.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. oh c'mon, no bacon-flavored wine?

Okay, maybe a Bacon Explosion (http://www.kansascity.com/703/story/1006454.html) with a glass of wine!

Friexenet is like wine made out of butter!

Why didn't I know such a wonderful wine existed?

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
There was a wine review -- and I don't remember for which wine -- that said it had notes of bacon! I laughed until I cried (because I find bacon turning up in unexpected places funny).

Here you go. Bacon wine:

Rating: THREE STARS 2005 Brian Benson Cellars Denner Vineyards Paso Robles Syrah ($35) Owner-winemaker Brian Benson officially released his first vintage in 2003, after making his first wine when he was 12. This wine has an assertive, brooding nose perfumed with smoked bacon, loam and bit of funk; chocolate with a hint of anise and greenness. Ripe fruit on a slightly thin palate; moderate finish.

And why have we not ever mentioned it before? I discovered it back when I hauled wine for a trucking company, and was thrilled to find that the Red Lyon sells it for their New Year's Eve bashes. I prefer the Cordon Negro (black bottle) Brut, but I agree with CR that the one she pointed out is great for Mimosa's. If you don't like your sparkling wines so dry, try just the Cordon Negro dry (http://www.freixenetusa.com/Wines.php?Wine=Cordon%20Negro%20Extra%20Dry) instead of Brut.

If wine could nom-nom-nom, this would be it. *g* The mouth feel of it is sublime.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! *rofl*

You know I've got to try it now! There's my V-day wine.
"a bit of funk"... that's hysterical... Funky wine, what could be better with R&B music?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry I never mentioned it to you before. Friexenet is by far my favorite of the champagne knock-offs. I even like their Spumante, but it's very sweet. Definitely a one-glass-only treat, but quite nice for a dessert sparkling wine.

I like assertive, brooding noses on men (http://handson.provocateuse.com/images/photos/adrien_brody_01.jpg). I'm not sure about the same in wine.

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
It's received great reviews for its price range. And the bottle? Frosted black! How can you go wrong?
