Restless

I haven't seen much about the Oscar fashions, but perhaps I'm running in the wrong circles for that these days. I skimmed some online galleries and found two that made me think I'd wear that:

Everyone's saying Beyoncé looked like a curtain, but the shape of this dress is stunning and fits her well. If it had been red instead of the weird black and gold print, people would've been raving. Apparently it's from her mother's design line (her mother has a design line?), so I guess she couldn't really say no to it. As far as the basic silhouette goes, I love it. I love the neckline, I love the fit, and I love that she's not a freaking beanpole in it.

Speaking of beanpoles...Marisa Tomei could stand to eat a sammich perhaps, but her dress is nothing short of ethereal. It's the best of all possible worlds: a 1950s glamor design aesthetic coupled with miles of exquisite pleats. I would wear this in a heartbeat. Even if it is white. People are gonna copy this for their wedding gown this year, or at least they should. It's a masterpiece, in my opinion.

I am so very happy that people are finally past that wretched slip-dress phase. Hurray for actual fashion design.

Back to Actual Life: I had an NMT session with Dr. Adams on Monday. My nose has been dripping for about a week, and on Friday I started breaking out in hives. My nose is still dripping a bit, but it certainly helped the hives, which are nearly gone today.

We watched Ironman last night. It was really good. No, I hadn't seen it yet. Wanted to. Wanted to see it in the theater, but it just didn't happen. I can see why everyone was so disappointed about Terrence Howard not getting his part for the sequel.

I very much need to get back in exercise mode. I've got to figure out a way to get more than five or six hours of sleep a night. This is killing me. Ugh. Last night I laid down to sleep and just lay there for over two hours. I tried deep breathing, different positions, singing mantras in my head--nothing. I should've gotten up, but I kept thinking "surely I'll fall asleep any minute now." How can I be so tired and still unable to fall asleep? It sucks. Mornings aren't much fun after that, let me tell you.

After the Fashion

Wow! I totally missed Beyonce in that dress. I only saw her performance with Hugh Jackman, where she also looked smoking hot and not beanpole-y. And I think her Mom has been designing her outfits at least since Destiny's Child. She used to do the whole groups costuming.

PS - Marisa's dress is sort-of silver when you see it up close. But the pleating is gorgeous!

It is a masterpiece except for that one, white, boring, predictable shoulder strap. Lost the strap, improve the design.

I still have the oscars on DVR, started to watch Monday, maybe I'll finish tonight.

I'm right there with you on the sleep thing. Can NOT WAIT to be done with the legion and get to bed at a decent hour.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm getting to bed at a decent hour, but I'm not able to sleep. Boo.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I like, Sleepytime Extra Tea, it has valarin root. I'm usually nodding before I finish the cup.

Marisa Tomei was wearing Versace. It was a truly magnificent gown.

Me, I was kind of disheartened to see that everything was off strapless/off the shoulder. After my recent experience with the bridesmaid dress thing, I am very, very down on that style at this point personally.

I'm really sorry I missed Beyonce in that dress. That is fabulous.

D.

OMG Iron Man! WOO!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Behold the Crush Du Jour:

OMG those shoulders.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
you're killing me.

i like it.

Unfortunately, there aren't a whole lot of screenshots from the movie.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't mind repetition. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I want more angles of him in that wifebeater. OMG him in that wifebeater...

I have a serious thing for a good-shouldered guy in a wifebeater.

Or good-shouldered guys pulling open their shirt (http://blog.cleveland.com/ent_impact_movies/2008/04/iron1.jpg) (linked because of enormous photo size).

Also facial hair.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He has such emo eyes in that enormous photo! Awww!

(also - *undershirt* It's an undershirt. :p )

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically, it's an A-shirt (as opposed to T-shirt). But who the hell knows that...besides some people we won't bother naming who obviously have some sort of fetish thing going on here....

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I... have never heard this term before. GOOD to know. :D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Srsly.

He does vulnerable so well in that scene. Even his hands. Lookit his hands. mmmm....haaaaaands.

[identity profile] m-stiefvater.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like this year model (http://listverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/christian-bale-99.jpg) with the emo eyes option.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There is...something...about Mr. Bale's nose that doesn't quite do it for me, although he does have cheekbones to die for.

I will call your Fierce Eyes Photo and raise you this:

[identity profile] m-stiefvater.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah I'm all over Fierce Eyes. Kapow!

Image

Or maybe those are smutty eyes. Hard to tell the difference.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to be have the opportunity to determine the difference. Up close. Maybe? Please?

[identity profile] m-stiefvater.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. And I think I spy a broken nose there. That's a plus.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Good shoulders. Wife beater-wearer. Facial hair. Broken nose.

It seems I am, at least, dating the right guy in real life.

[identity profile] m-stiefvater.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no broken nose on my real life guy, but in the good shoulders department, I'm sold.

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I particularly like the little cut on his cheek that looks just like a tear. Aww. And BLOOD. It doesn't get better than that, folks.

guh

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG hero dirt. ::swoons::
Totally yummy, and an excellent characterization.

After I first saw the movie (at the drive-in! best viewing ever!), I heard somebody say this...

Memo to Bruce Wayne: Billionaire Playboy? UR doin' it WRONG!

Re: guh

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
HA HA HA HA! Bruce Wayne was not a playboy, though. Did he even have sex? Like, ever?

Edit: I mean, with someone female? Who wasn't a sidekick?

Heh. I want you to know that you have made my day. I shall sing your praises on the Internets.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Very happy to know I accomplished something somewhere today because god knows nothing's happening where my job is concerned.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Wifebeater! Grainy wifebeater, but better than no wifebeater at all.

Image

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like the Hephaestus scenes. A lot.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I want a video loop of him hammering on that face mask.

Oooo! Non-production shot!

Oh holy mary. No no, that's to virginal.

Fuck. Me.

[identity profile] theoneinblue.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ye gods. I've been catching up on the whole thread...and yes to yummy shoulders uninhibited by sleeves...I think this is my favorite shot you've posted...

Have I ever mentioned that one of my favorite summertime things to do is watch T. swim? Because of the water rolling off the shoulders...among other things...

Ok, I'm going to clean the drool off my keyboard now.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, that was far and away my favorite pic, too.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick bought one of those pull-up bars for the house recently.

Just, you know, sayin'...

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so. glad. I was doing something worthwhile when I missed these. As in, not my job.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Ironman. Mac gave it an "eh." I don't know what's wrong with him.

It was certainly cast well.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what's wrong with him.

This is the man who admits to occasionally eating ketchup on steak. He obviously has a few issues with some things.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Beyonce's gown looks much better in that particular shot than I had thought. I mean, it was blindingly gold and her pose there is sublime, so it does look lovely.

House of Deréon is the label. I went ga-ga over the boots they had on eBay this past winter's sale. But I resisted.

did you see the pic of Amy Adams' necklace? (http://www.shoppingblog.com/cgi-bin/sblog.pl?sblog=224094)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes. That necklace looks like someone went crazy with a jar of gummy candy and a hot glue gun.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. It's pretty odd, isn't it?
I liked it on the telly from a distance, but up close, ugh.
