Frizz

Wait...this is May first? Wow. *looks outside* Huh.

Thank you to everyone who weighed in on the conversation yesterday. I haven't changed my basic stance, but the ideas and motivations of my friends who do support the legislative change make sense to me now.

News flash: I do not have Celiac or Barr-Epstein. Anyone surprised? No? Me, neither. Moving on.

[livejournal.com profile] anerys made me so very happy by posting this recipe for bacon vodka. How convenient that I bought some bacon at the store last night because I am so making it this weekend. I'll report back on my findings at the end of the month. I might also try the Candied Bacon recipe that she linked to. It sounds a million times better than the chocolate bacon. And finally, why do I keep forgetting to look for Bacon Salt? The website says they carry it at Kroger and Hy-Vee. I need to get on that.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of bacon, I would like to tell people that my cholesterol levels came back with flying colors and happy sparkles. My doctor even hand-wrote "Great numbers!" at the bottom of my report. Got that in the mail with the other lab report yesterday.

Something else to report--I think I am not allergic to wheat after all. As I mentioned, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I ordered pizza on Monday and I had no major stomach upset and no hives. On Tuesday I had a couple graham crackers with milk. Last night I came home and made myself a ham sammich. I got a bit of a stomachache from that, but I'm attributing it to the fact that I sort of inhaled it. I wanted to eat before going to the grocery store, and I wanted to go to the grocery store before the thunderstorm hit.

I got home from the store right before the rain started, but I didn't eat much the rest of the night because I felt a little queasy. As a result, I'm pretty hungry today, but will continue my day-long fasting. It's so nice to be un-bloated and non-achey at work.

I walked up to work today with my hair still slightly damp and now I look like a Fraggle. Thanks, wind and humidity! You're a fantastic combination.

High Fructose Corn Syrup maybe?
It is in everything......

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't buy anything with HFCS. I'm super careful about that. Even if it's just [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick eating it and not me, I don't buy it.

Holy mother...candied bacon? Must. Bake. That.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen bacon salt at Hy-Vee. Let me know if you want me to pick some up for you. I'm there a lot. I'll go there today, actually, for needed staple items.

Are there different kinds of wheat maybe?

yay for improving health!
Yay for bacon!
Yay for fraggles!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug*

I'm still hoping the yeast treatment works. It would be nice if it arrived today.

I'm probably going to be out on that side of town tomorrow, so I'll look for it. But thank you for the offer!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, two out of three ain't bad.

But...

Everyone loves a fraggle!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I might try it with the bacon left over from the bacon vodka experiment. But then again, I might just eat it as BLTs. Because I can.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. But not everyone loves to be a fraggle.

True. But if you HAVE to be a fraggle, you can go a lot worse than Red.

[identity profile] razorart.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Duuuuude, I got bacon salt!! Well, it's SMOKED salt and comes in large granules. I can give you some if you'd like!!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If you loaned me a bottle of it, you would never see it again. I think it's best for the future of our friendship if I just buy my own. =)

Thank you for the offer, though!

[identity profile] tessagratton.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, that candied bacon looks yummy. And so do the martinis. YUM.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Srsly.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that the pizza sauces have HFCS in them, (does Wheat State say specifically that they don't use sauce that has it? Maybe they do) and you have to watch your brands of graham crackers.
Breads have it, too, which could be the reaction agent in some of the ones you've had.
I've also found out that it can be sneakily called fructose/sucrose or fructose/glucose, same tactics as calling MSG by different names. Maddening eh?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I read the packaging on every single processed food item I purchase, and that includes graham crackers and bread.

Wheat State Pizza's red sauce has 9g carbs per medium-size pizza, so I think it's a safe bet it doesn't have HFCS either.

Ham gives me a stomach ache. I don't think I am allergic, but something about it gives little sharp pains in my tummy.

[identity profile] cmt2779.livejournal.com 2009-05-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I wound up looking all fraggle-tastic today, too! Apparently Texas and Kansas are having the same awesome weather.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-05-02 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)

YAY!

I do the same thing.. it drives J crazy, he doesn't understand why it's such a Big Deal to me. Isn't it ridiculous how many foods have it?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Ridiculous and horrifying.
