Faboo

I'm revamping Azucena's wardrobe for KCRF this year. The only major change will be the new bodice. I'm making a closed-front bodice, which means I'll have to have someone lace me up every morning when I get to site. My skirts, chemises, and bloomers will stay the same (they all still fit), so I'm sticking with the same color palette. I'm mainly doing research on Spanish design details like the use of trims, embroidery designs, and jewelry. I'm not fooling myself into thinking I'm going to be within spitting distance of historical accuracy, but I'd like to make an attempt at homage at the least.

Doing the online research, though, means that I run up against all sorts of temptations (some of which are appropriate for the costume, some which aren't). Like this, this, and pretty much every piece of jewelry found on this page. Gorgeous stuff. I especially love the drippy earrings.

In a moment of serendipity, Fabulon posted this today.

Fabulous timing, of course!

Wow that comb! All of it really.

I am PRAYING we don't get this hot during KCRF. NOT looking forward to Whiteheart in this heat. :P

Poor thing. Sorry you'll be suffering at Whiteheart. Here's hoping we're not miserable at KCRF.

I used to have my great-great grandmother's combs that great-grandpapa brought over on the boat. My mom let me play with them, though, and they all disintegrated. I still have some of the jewelry he brought, though. Cufflinks, done in that damascene style. There used to be a bracelet, but I have no idea where it went. Maybe Mommy still has it.

"Sorry you'll be suffering at Whiteheart" Thanks, we'll have fun though. We were making plans to keep us cool as possible. Taking lots of water and ice! I shall make mint tea! (I remember how! ;)

That style is beautiful, made me wish I had a reason to wear any of it!

Reason? You need a reason other than "I like this"?

Tell me about it! Don't think I'll be dancing too much this weekend...

And you're an EVIL woman for posting those links! Good thing I'm broke. Wait, not it's not. Gah!

I'll be sure to visit your Majesty often with the Icy Hands Of DOOM (tm) ;)

Yay!

And now that the ice machine is working again, this will be more easily made possible!

I'm sure that any of your Brothel sisters will be happy to lace you into the bodice you will create. I, for one, look forward to seeing what you create, as you return to Azucena.

I can understand your being tempted mightily...I would think the jewelery would be quite appropriate, and the crucifix, of course.

The video is so very nifty.

Thank you!

Yes, I'm sure I won't have trouble finding help. It'll just be different!

You could totally work a comb like that into a light weight headdress.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...but do I want to pick stuff out of the lace every night? It would look so sexy...but... It's enough to deal with just the wig. Wig and mantilla? Unsure.

The lace would truly be a pain in the ass.

Not to mention it was the 'proper' ladies who wore it to cover their hair. Azucena would be making a statement of her own by wearing the comb, without the lace covering :). Maybe just a large rose next to the comb in the hair...... :).

But I'm not sure how to manage the bun/comb combo and incorporate the very necessary headband to hide the ridge of the mini-yak.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2009-06-24 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Could perhaps the comb be a part of what holds the mini-yak in place and perhaps flowers attached to a separate comb, through the front edge of the mini yak to disguise the front edge...madonna lilies, perhaps?

Bleaugh. Too many flowers, too much froo-froo. I didn't think the flower wreath suited me at all the year I tried it. The mini-yak doesn't need extra support to stay on. The headband just hides the front edge.

This time next year I might be able to make a bun with my own hair again.

I just saw combs downtown recently.. Antique Mall, perhaps?

Gorgeous stuff!

I still have the gorgeous comb D bought me years ago. It's green rhinestones, though. Not really in my color scheme, alas.
