Buried

Another two or maybe three inches of snow fell last night.

snow8

It was still snowing when I left this morning. I shoveled our sidewalk and the neighbors to the north so I had a clear path for the first twenty feet of my walk to work. But since it was still coming down, I don't know how much is going to remain for [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick to do when he wakes up.

I'm betting we won't be able to get the car out for another couple days. I'm supposed to be in KC on Saturday, so I hope things are cleared a bit by then. The fucking "traffic control devices" (i.e. lame-ass concrete barrier sorry excuse for roundabouts) they installed at the intersections all up our street mean snowplows can't get through our neighborhood. So we don't get plowed. Nice, huh?

I am so done with this shit. And I'm so relieved I went to the grocery store last night.

Today's Dr. Boli post made me smile. Very appropriate considering this year's decision to not go out to party like a crazy person for New Year's Eve.

I hope next year I'll be back to my usual hi-jinks.

mmmm ginger ale.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually really like ginger ale.

But even if I'm home all by myself at midnight, I'm still opening up a bottle of champagne just for me. I'll at least do that!

What'cho do Saturday?

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it too. I was going to pick up a bottle for PDA and I to have after the gig. I better do that tonight.

I'm going to be hooking up with [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy and another friend in Merriam for a henna day. If you wanna come hang out, lemme know. I promise I won't come near your lovely head with henna hands.

I get to shovel the hill that is my driveway again. Yippee.

They never, ever clear our cul-de-sac, and we have no barriers for them to get in it. The neighbor shoveled it after the last big snow.

I wish that Santa would have brought us a snow blower. At least this is only a couple of inches. I had to shovel snow that was above my knees when we got back from KC.

Oh THAT'S why your section wasn't plowed. We cut through via 17th today and went around those lame-o round-abouts and wondered why the University side was plowed (or seemed to me) and your side wasn't. I guess it makes sense now.

We have a 5ft drift all along the front of our yard from the plows. FIVE FEET.

Saw the fresh powder and thought of you as it fell.

Hope you are having a better day than you this morn.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Eek! How do people get out of your cul-de-sac? Does someone have one of those plows affixed to the front of a pickup?

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoah.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
AWD: That's how I get out.

Another reason to hate the stupid traffic-disturbing/circumventing devices, which I steadfastly refuse to call roundabouts because we Brits are much more sensible about where they are located. And we drive smaller cars, so they make sense in a small country.

oops. ranting again, sorry.
I also found it strange and amusing that the neighborhoods with the highest rate of BUV 4x4s (big Ugly vehicles) got plowed long before the areas where more people are likely to own smaller fair-weather cars. Logic of a city for ya.

On a happier note:
I stashed a case of Fiery Ginger Beer and a bottle of booze. I'm in good shape for another downblast.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for a stash of booze. Swear to god it's providing the inspiration to get through the day.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*that* and food. I didn't bring anything to eat today.
I'll be ravenous by the time 4:ish comes around.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Your cul-de-sac is so tiny, I can't imagine one of the big plows even being able to turn in to it!
.. could you imagine if they did and left a five foot high wall of snow at the end of your driveway? ACK.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but surely one of the little trucks with removable plow fronts...

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They used to do that to me when I lived close to Lydia and Chris. I could never go anywhere without shoveling out from a mountain of snow the city left at the end of my driveway from clearing the street.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)

... should have been on your street, lol!

Unfortunately, even those little trucks don't have a great turning radius..they'd have to just push it forward into the yards on the opposite of the open end, leaving a big pile up against the driveways.
Maybe they expect that people who live on the small west side cul-de-sacs own SUVs.
Or perhaps they simply expect that in blizzard conditions, people might prepare to be .. omg.. snowed in!

I don't envy that driveway at all!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.. Jay had to shovel the end of the driveway on Sunday so I could get out for work Monday. My poor sweetie.
The snowplow came through during the night and the pile was right back up again, LOL.

[identity profile] slinka.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
OK we are still not getting any snow.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Want I should box you up some?

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2009-12-30 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I CAN NOT do any more shoveling.

You can have mine!
