Things are looking up

Temperatures are supposed to reach above freezing every day this week. Heat Wave!

Kids like this give me hope for our future.

A million kajillion thanks to [livejournal.com profile] everflame for sending this to me. What a fancy-baby start to the day.

I took a clue from [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe to use petticoats as an extra layer for winter warmth (in addition to being just darn fashionable). I based my petticoat pattern on a vintage cotton eyelet one I've worn for years. I made a few alterations to the design, but it turned out great. Fluffs out the skirt enough for fullness without looking cartoonish, and holds in the body heat of my legs. Mostly. I made my test run out of cherry fabric. My second one will be leopard print. The skirt I made to go with the petticoat was Vogue 7910. It sewed up beautifully and fit well with no adjustments. I'm going to purchase a couple extras of this pattern before it's (inevitably) discontinued. I can see it becoming a wardrobe staple. I made View C, with the pockets. My pockets are uneven because I wasn't careful lining up notches on the muslin.

I'd forgotten there's a three-day weekend coming up. It ameliorates my disgruntled attitude about canceling my vacation. Only four more wake-ups before I have 72 hours to enjoy away from the office. Bliss!
